I was a teacher at Montclair. I will not say my name because it does not matter, but as one parent asked why are all the good teachers leaving? The answer is the unethical treatment and job security. They only give one year contracts, even if you have been there for several years and then do not let you know if you are rehired days before the school year begins. When you have a wife, children, a mortgage and expenses living in Los Angeles its very scary for me and also very selfish of them. I guess they figure people are desperate in this field which is why there are so many bad teachers around. If they had good teachers they should have done everything to keep them, but we are all disposable and I can honestly say I hope they sink. Its horrible how they treat the staff giving them no job security for a school thats been around half a century, shame on them, thats why I took a position at a school that actually gives tenure after 1 year. They lost me for good.

Montclair cancelled their 7th and 8th grade, and their sports program at the last minute, stranding countless kids with no school to attend, 6 weeks before the school year was to begin. We all had to scramble to secure schools for our kids. Nice.

Shannon in admissions has been extremely rude and unhelpful. She decided to involve herself in a custody situation and has put my child in a potentially dangerous situation. I assume that is because I wasn't paying the tuition.

Something's wrong here. Why are the faculty leaving? The owner has let go of too many good teachers since taking over two years ago - seven veteran teachers (Silverman, Gika, McDonnell, Erenberg, Krupp, Haeussler, Carlson) are all gone! Three new teachers hired this year are all leaving as well. No explanations were given for the turnover, no new faculty have been announced - my child will not be returning next year. Very disappointed.

The faculty and staff work together to make sure that each child succeeds and feels confident in their studies.

My daughter loves to go to school every morning---she enjoys the challanges given her by the teachers because they also give her the tools to rise to those challanges. It is a great school.

I am a new parent in the High School. I really like the class schedule. The kids have all their solids done by lunch. After lunch is study hall and then sports. My son loves it. I also think the school does a great job of enforcing a clear set of standards and rules, while at the same time encouraging and praising the kids in success. I admit I wondered how my son would react to Montclair's structure. I am happy to report that he is thriving, motivated and happy to be there.

The students had no values and threw their money around at everyone's face. The parents weren't any different. Upscale attitudes from all the students. The teachers overall were pretty good, but most that I liked left (good for them). The only ones left that I remembered as wonderful are Krupp, Erenberg, Haeussler, Boles, Kern, and Abrahams.

As a former student who was highly involved in acadmeic and sport activities. I would like to say that Montclair more than prepared me to attend and do well at any Collegic institution in the nation. If you want an envirornment that is small, safe, and composed of some of the best teachers in the teaching field consider Montclair. I am an alumni and I will be an alumni of Drake University May 12, 2005. Montclair prepared me academically and socially thus making my college venture an enjoyable!

About these ratings

The Community Rating is the school’s average rating from its community members (e.g., parents, students, and school staff). The highest possible rating is five stars; the lowest is one star.

We currently do not have any test score information for this school. Unlike public schools, private schools are not always required to report data about their schools or not required to take the same tests as public schools. Many private schools take different standardized tests; however, that information is often made available only to families of enrolled students. We strive to acquire additional private school data whenever available.
