A school in which children thrive. My daughter gets it all academics, music, art, and physical education. Along with great aftercare at the on campus YMCA. Thank you Coeur D'Alene Avenue Elementary School staff and Booster Club for all the extra effort you give.

My grandson has been in this school since first grade. We are all very happy with the education and parent support. Very lucky to have such a great neighborhood school. We can only hope that it remains so.

It is a wonderful school with parents who are very involved. The principal is new and enthusiastic. The teachers are hard working, especially Mr. Bax and Ms. Romero. My daughter has been there since Kinder and she is about to graduate from 5th grade. She loves the school and we think she got a wonderful education there!

I love Coeus D'Alene because the Teachers care, they are 100% dedicated, the Principal is wonderfull and the mom's are so wonderfull and dedicated to be volunteers, each person there really care for each child and to make this school a sucessfull one.

Principal Jenkins knows every child at the school by name. Staff and parents are very motivated to continue delivering quality well-rounded education to their students, even in the face of district budget cuts. Parents are very involved and the children love their school.

We have two children at CDA. For the most part, the teachers are excellent. The Principal is a great leader, terrific communicator and thoroughly involved with all aspects of running a tight, diverse school. It seems, year after year, the same group of devoted parents bring their best to CDA. Their contributions include; volunteering, mentoring, coaching and helping out to make the CDA experience fulfilling. Pre K - 4th are excellent. Fifth grade is challenging for parents as the teachers seem a little detached from parental input.

My son started kindergarten at Coeur D'Alene in September and we couldn't be more thrilled about our experience. His teacher has more than a decade of experience and is kind, nurturing and connected to the kids. My son is excited and enthusiastic about what he is learning. He has PE, art, music, science, and social studies in addition to the math and reading arts and all the wonderful creative projects they do in the class. The classroom is warm and inviting, full of books, puzzles, blocks, games, art supplies, and computers. The classroom walls showcase the kids work. Recess and lunch are well supervised on a small yard. Principal Jenkins is child centered and truly cares about kids and learning. We looked at 'progressive' private schools and are very glad we choose CDA.

Wow - I am very surprised by the comment made yesterday by the upset parent. We are a long time Coeur d'Alene family, and think the school is terrific. Yes, the class sizes got bigger. However, it is a California State/LA Unified budget issue, not a Coeur d'Alene issue. I feel my kids are safe and are very happy at CDA. My only real concerns are the budget crises and how LA Unified is spending 'our' money. As far as the new Principal goes, I am extremely pleased with him. He is much more involved and appears to care about the kids, not the personal awards that he could possibly win. He has great ideas and is inspiring the teachers to take learning to a new level!

I don't agree with the praises sung by the parents in the majority of the reviews. All classes are overcrowded except 2nd. Issues like safety, cleanliness, bullying need attention. There are problems with parents who are raising undisciplined kids--the result: bad behavior in school. This reality is minimized by the staff. By second grade all teachers are teaching cookie-cutter curriculums to standardized tests. Most of the energy is placed on bringing struggling kids up to the middle. The kids in the middle or higher are lost. The parental politics are out of control. There are parents who live at the school and get the best of the resources and teachers. The budget cuts have magnified the problem. The new principal, while he talks a good talk, caters to these parents. The principal lacks the maturity and the experience to manage this school fairly.
