Want to improve this school’s profile? You can!

All schools on GreatSchools begin with BASIC completeness, which includes important information like contact details and test scores. It’s up to the school community to take the next steps. As a parent or community member, you can share what you know with other families by writing a review or answering a few questions about what the school offers. As a school leader, you can upload photos, describe school programs, and more with an Official school profile.

The completeness meter moves to INTERMEDIATE, then ADVANCED, and finally HONOR ROLL as you complete the following: 10 or more reviews, at least 1 photo, and 9 program questions parents find helpful.

I love Westminster Ave. Elementary in Venice. I have been a teacher for 27 years and Westminster is a jewel. The 2012-2013 school year was my first year teaching at Westminster in the Math/Computer Magnet and I had one of the best classes of my teaching career. Everyone welcomed me warmly and the the parent involvement is amazing. I am so excited about the upcoming new school year. I am looking forward to working with the our amazing staff, parents and awesome kids. Here's to a fabulous school year!

My daughter is just completing second grade at Westminster. As a strong believer in local public schools, enrolling her was not a difficult decision for me. Having said that, Westminster has FAR exceeded my expectations. Not only is she thriving academically, my daughter has learned powerful lessons about education and community that can only be achieved at a place where teachers, administration and parents all share a common passion for learning and neighborhood unity. I would not only recommend prospective parents to visit this amazing school, I would challenge them to find a more nurturing, inspiring school ANYWHERE and at any price. Like their fabulous WE Garden, this school is destined to grow beautifully and be a shining example of community involvement. This is what an elementary education should be. Kudos to everyone involved at this school. You are doing a great job.

This is a GREAT school I graduated from this school in 02' from the Magnet program, The teacher's were excellent, & also the staff & the principle. I want to thank Mr. Robins who was such an amazing teacher, he would sit down & listen to your problems individually & give you GREAT advise on how to handle it, I also want to thank Mr. Lesner who was another GREAT teacher was so calm NEVER mistreated his students always took his time on teaching & never rushed a student if he/she didn't understand. & last but not least my 3rd grade teacher Ms. Okin who made learning fun & helped each & everyone of her students patiently & you can tell how much she enjoyed teaching because there was NEVER a day where she didn't have smile on her face (: I miss this school so so much! GREAT SCHOOL

I have a son enrolled in the 3rd grade magnet program and a daughter that just began kindergarten, I am impressed with the principal's dedication to striving for academice excellence and that in the midst of budget cuts she had been able to maintain extracurricular activities such as arts, drama and music. The WE garden speaks for itself.

The school has an excellent principal that listens to the ideas and concerns of parent, during the course of the current principal's leadership the school's API has increased by 43 points. She has managed to keep extracurricular activities in our school, such as art, music, and drama, during this economic crisis. I can't fail to mention or fabulous WE garden, which speaks for itself.

Westminster Elementary School has a strong teaching staff, experienced, intelligent and caring principal and a supportive parent group. In a short time, the principal has transformed the school into a serious center of learning, discovery and growth.

Westminster Magnet paves the way for advanced technology education. Students integrate state standards into projects in PowerPoint, Excel, Frames, Pixie, iMovie and iPhoto. Come see our original animations and claymations. You won't find this at any other school!

Westminster Elementary and Magnet is a wonderful school. There is a tremendous amount of parent, teacher and student involvement. We were also one of the first schools in Los Angeles to provide a green garden.

We love the Principal, all the staff, and we love the fact that Westminster Ave.Elem.School's students share musical performances, plays and other school activities, as gardening, with the pupils of bilingual Claire Fontaine, their neighbor.

Love this school, my daughter is in 4th grade of the Magnet program, we are so happy to have been part of this school the last 5 year watching it grow and accomplish its goals. The teachers are all amazing and very caring and with the help of parent and other community member and our garden volunteers, our garden has expanded and now there will be another garden for Kindergarten. API scores went up 23 point last years. Our New principal is hands on. Does magic! The campus is beautiful and on a great street, palms trees and ocean breeze in a Community to be known for its art and diversity. We just love it and are sad it doesn't carry on all the way to highschool :)

Both of my kids are in the Magnet program, the magnet program has some amazing teachers. However as stated in a previous post, the navigation with the appropriate teachers is a must. This school also offers a wonderful after school program, LA's Best which is free. I highly recommend this school, they are very understanding of the individuals needs.

I agree that it is important to choose your teachers at this school, but in every grade, at least in the magnet, there is at least one good choice. I find that everyone, from the administration to the teachers, really cares so much about the kids and the school. My son is in 5th grade and my daughter in 2nd, both in the magnet. They have gardening class, music, dance, art and drama. (Dance art and drama are split over the year.) My son exercises in the morning every day with his class before starting academics. There is a big tutoring program at the school too with around 100 mentors working with kids one on one every week. I wish there were more parental involvement sometimes, but the teachers make up for a lot of what parents do in other schools - writing grants, for example. I love the school.

It really depends which teacher you get for your child. My child just started the magnet program this year in first grade. He started with a very rigid and strict teacher, who seems well supported by the administration. But they agreed to transfer my child to a better teacher. If you can navigate which teachers are good and which aren't, then it is a fine school.

Westminister has great tset scores and most teachers are fully credentialed, which makes for a professional teaching environment. The kindergarten through fifth grade school is wonderful both academically and also in the abundance of after school programs. There are also interns who help with the education process. It is a school in which teachers are learning from students as well as students learning from teachers, which makes for both good students and excellent teachers. The school has a well-rounded curriculum for students; it's both traditional and innovative. Math and English are made fun, but the importance of these subjects is most certainly stressed.

My Daughter has attended Westminster Elementary Magnet school, since first grade. She is now about to graduate in June and has been so happy with her school. It has some great academic programs taught by some great teachers that have helped prepare my daughter for 6th grade. She just came back from a wonderful Science Camp program where students doing well in their studies were selected to go away and learn science studies. She has also been in many after school programs involved with LA's best. Dance Drill team, Fashion Design, and yoga & Jazz and cooking. Parents are often asked to join in and come to help with the events in the school. It has really been a great 5 years and I'm very happy that I've choosen Westminster for my daughter's education. From a very happy parent!
