Good school overall. History program-mostly leftist teachers who twist history-minimize the United States. Especially true of AP History. Example essay question to students applying to AP History ...Why do you think Barak Obama is one of our best Presidents? One teacher unplugs school PA system during Pledge Of Allegiance and if she has to do it, takes her hand off her heart when words "under God" are said and won't say them. Promotes you are a citizen of the world. Stickers/posters in classes highly tilted politically. Music Program lacks fairness with Director playing power games giving different levels of hardness test questions to students to favor or put down whoever he wants. Positions and awards can be based on favoritism or power games and have nothing to do with ability to play an instrument or skill level. Teacher tantrums are not unusual-have a demoralizing effect on talented students. Not doing "assigned" volunteer work can be taken out on you in other ways. AP Programs available in Math, Science, and English. Some excellent teachers (Environmental Science and Biology). Some excellent regular track Math Teachers. AP Math teachers are a mixed bag.

My husband attended Buena back in the day. My twin sons are now juniors there, and I can say I am well pleased. One of my sons has special needs and they've been addressed promptly and thoroughly. The administration is strong, the teachers are above average to superior. Everyone on the staff is eager for students to learn and go great lengths to assure that happens. This a well run, safe school.

Buena is a nice environment for kids to grow up in. I feel like this school has affected my son so much and has a staff.

Wonderful school, some problems but they were minimal. The environment was very relaxing and the students didn't bother anyone all that much. Some of the students were really mean but people actually stood up for you and the drama was minimal, only if you weren't looking for it. Though the restrictions on off campus lunch have become ridiculous.

Buena is the BEST school in Ventura. I attended the school for four years, having graduated last spring. The teachers there are really helpful and knowledgeable, along with all the other staff members. Everyone working on campus gives an effort to better the campus and enrich the students education.

The education was mediocre, unless you got some of the better teachers. I found that a lot of the teachers wanted to be your friend instead of teachers. I'm glad I had a couple of teachers that were really interested in not only what they taught, but also in the progress of the students.

I attended Buena High School from 1988-1992. I found the academic selection to be varied. There was help for those who may be struggling and also classes to challenge those who wanted to learn more. Sports programs were also good.

Buena High School was a wonderful experience for my daughter! It has tremendous school spirit and the academics in the honors program equipped her well for college, she was accepted at some of the most prestigious colleges in the country. Its open atmosphere was great and the principal was willing to take time and invest in every student there.

Graduated from Buena in 1987. I live half a mile away, and I can't wait for my two kids to attend Buena.The teachers and staff at this school are top rate. And bulldog pride is carried w/ me till this day. Great school.

About the tests


In 2012-2013 California used the California Standards Tests (CSTs) to test students in English language arts in grades 2 through 11; math in grades 2 through 7; science in grades 5, 8 and 10; and history-social science in grades 8 and 11. Middle and high school students also took subject-specific CSTs in math and science, depending on the course in which they were enrolled. The CSTs are standards-based tests, which means they measure how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of California. The goal is for all students to score at or above proficient on the tests.

The different student groups are identified by the California Department of Education; if there are fewer than 10 students in a particular group in a school, the state doesn't report data for that group.
