I have two boys who are juniors this year at VHS. Both have been in honors courses since frosh year and are now in AP courses with more to come senior year. I believe any school is only worth what the students are willing to put into it, but VHS offers a well rounded program for those who seek to take advantage. Could use much more parental support, Val Wyatt is doing an outstanding job as and administrator, how many hs priciples know so many students by name, just watch her work the quad! My next VHS student will be in special ed and my impression is that she will also have many resources at her disposal. My family is very happy at VHS.

Mostly apathetic staff, administrators concerned only about politics, run down facilities. Unhealthy focus on football

The teachers & counselors at VHS are actively involved in the children's education. Since my son's Freshman year, the counselor has frequently provided me with College information, requirements, books to read, etc. to make sure that we are both on track to get into a 4 year college straight from high school. The coaches, art teachers, music teacher, drama teacher are all phenomenal. The general education teachers are also invested in the children, emailing parents when a child is absent, staying in regular contact. I would highly recommend VHS!

Two kids through VHS. We are happy. VHS provides the opportunity for kids to excel. Kids have to choose to take up the opportunity. Some great teachers, but you have to watch out for a few real losers even in the honors program. Principal Wyatt has been a major cause of cleaning up student appearance and attitude. Still some security issues with very diverse student body. Not just racial diversity, but religion, economic, and life-style diversity. Some athletic programs are over-competitive, losing sight of true value of high school sports. Weak ASB program. Yearbook needs work. Music, art, and drama do not receive much publicity. In fact, VHS as a whole needs a better PR person. Parent support is not wide-spread and I think there is not enough extra money to go around. Great campus, outstanding facilities. The only Ventura school with 2 gyms. Decent school spirit. A good school.

We are on our 3rd child thru VHS with one more to go. We love many things about VHS, especially the diversity. It is real! It is a place for those who want to develop to do so. Teachers care, administration is working hard to push all kinds of kids. We are very happy to send our kids to a school that will lead to them being well rounded, aware-of-the-REAL-world people. Go Cougars!

My daughter just graduated from Ventura High. She had a very positive schooling experience there. 90% of the graduating class is going on to college. I believe this says a lot about a schools reputation.

Ventura High merits a mediocre rating at best. It has consistantly rated the lowest performing of the three main high schools in this district. The music program which had formerly been a nationally recognized program is now in the 2003-2004 school year below average under the direction of the new music teacher. For students interested in music, VUSD no longer offers an award winning music program.
