The Academy is an exceptional school that has had more than its share of challenges over the past several years. Music has always been the cornerstone of the program, but as of two years ago The Academy lost both of its music teachers due to budget cuts. Fortunately, the wonderful administration and staff had the courage and resolve to find some creative ways to keep the music alive by recruiting a teahcer with a strong musical background from another school and a former music teacher from the community. Although it has not been easy the past couple of years, the school is offering a music program that it can be proud of and that is continuously improving. As far as the school "letting anyone in," all I can say is that this is a public school. If anything, having to serve a more diverse and less affuent group of students has made The Academy and its teachers more effective and less complacent. They just received a 9 out of 10 ranking in similar school comparisons, which means that they are in the 90th percentile of one hundred schools with similar demographics...simply outstanding! Our family loves the school and proudly recommends it to others. The Academy is back!

I'm looking for a different school for my child. Principal is new to this school and thinks she will be able to bring up this school. The fact is that the last principal moved away because he knew this school was going down and if he didn't improve it he would look bad. It was a good school in the pass and now they are struggling to keep up enrollment and letting anyone in and it's affecting everything. The music program is just sad. Music teacher is not passionate for the class she is teaching and it affects the whole program.

The Academy gave my child the opportunity to learn a new language and play a new instrument. My child is a new student at The Academy, the teachers are very supportive and offer after school help. The school also has a morning reading program, chess club, music program which builds the childs self esteem.

At the Academy my kids get to learn all their acadimics as well as learn to play and study music. They also begin learning a foreign language in kindergarten and continue to learn through sixth grade. The Academy has a wonderful and dedicated staff that is committed to the excellence of its students.

The teachers care for the students. Students are taught to respect themselves and each other from the beginning. The school realizes the importance of all aspects of learning, not just reading, writing and math, but also foreign language, arts and physical education.

I have two daughters currently attending the Academy. I believe this is a great school. Yes the work is very challenging, it is suppose to be challenging. The work and school is designed for parents to participate with their child s education. Parents have to do diligent in ensuring their child is completing the homework assignment. To the parents that try to place the blame on the teachers and the school because their child is behind, get off you lazy tales and see what the true problem is. The teachers (Mrs. Belmudes, Mrs. Eblilng, Mrs. Forster, and Mrs. Miner), the principal and Mrs. Diane are extremely helpful, I am in overseas and they manage to ensure me that my daughters are being taking care of. I can call the school at anytime to receive an update on their education progress. Honestly you WILL NOT find a better school within the High Desert when it concerns the quality of education and support.

My daughter just completed her 1st year at the Academy as a 3rd grader and I can say I am very satisfied overall with their academics and staff. My daughter also loved the school and wishes she was currently in session. She can't wait until school starts in September.

This school was by far my first choice for my children. Now, after experiencing it first hand, we are glad to be out of there! The teachers are very nice.. so long as you are an active parent and your child is smart. Heaven help your kid if they are not up to par.. they would rather get rid of your kid to bring in a smarter one to help scores.. I've heard them actually say this.. They love to talk about other people the second they leave the room. Teachers don't ever correct their own homework.. parents do all of this. There is quite a bit of parental involvement, but only by the same parents time after time and you have to be accepted and you have to have money. The booster club is obsessed with fundraising. I wouldn't recommend this school anymore. Very disappointing.

This is definitely a great school. My daughter attended the Academy's Kindergarten program last year and we were impressed. This school is definitely geared towards those students and parents who are willing to work with the child at home. Lots of homework and lots of reading ! All great for those who want to excel. The teachers are all great with the kids. Who wouldn't want to spend a few hours helping (volunteering) those who are helping your child in the learning process. We love this school and recommend it to anyone who wants to put lots of time into their child's education. EVEN the wait (camp out) to register was worth it. We met all of my daughters classmates and parents during these few days at the school.

This is has been a wonderful school for my two children. The days spent camping out to get in were well worth it. The teachers are very attentive and are focused on helping your child succeed. The staff and administration listen to concerns and handle issues appropriately. This school produces well rounded, happy, bright children!

The quality of academic programs at the academy is excellent! We've been very happy with our childrens' progress at the school. As far as availability of music and arts, the school is awesome too, but we are very disappointed that our school doesnt have adequate facilities for preforming arts. Our children, in many cases, have to go to other schools because our auditorium is not large enough to accomidate the audience. Parent involvement is an absolute must at this school because of the amount of homework that the students are required to do. Parental volunteering is also very important to the success of the teachers as the classes are somewhat large. This is especially important at the primary level.

I think the school is very academic. They expect a lot from the students, causing them to strive to be better. ( Not for the average student or parent that is not willing to get involved.) Love the music and language programs. Love the fact that there are strong male role models/teachers willing to take a stand on what is right and not necessarily what is politically correct or popular.

I was very disappointed with my child's experience at the Academy. Several teachers seemed to work hardest with the high peforming students, leaving the average kids to fend for themselves. Communications went unanswered, complaints were dismissed. There is definitely a cliquish mentality that pervades the campus. My child was assigned self-directed work that was not monitored sufficiently by the teachers. The instruction was provided by the computers, with inadequate follow up by the educators. Since all of the assignements were multiple choice, he guessed his way through the year, receiving a good grade without the skills to back them up. His homework was not directly related to what he was doing in class. Assignments were not graded and returned. Tests were not sent home. It was not until my child left the Academy that we discovered how little he had actually been taught. Our years at the Academy were wasted.

I have a student that attended The Academy for one year. When I first learned of the school I was very excited. Things were great up until Mr. Cameron left. The school went to pot within a couple months. I was told that my student was not 'performing as he/she should be' and the report card showed that my student was 'below grade level' in many classes and 'above grade level' in some. When questioned about this I was given the run around. My student is attending another school in the High Desert and is doing great. The teachers have good things to say and grades are really great. The Academy is not all it appears to be. Do your homework before sending your child here. Granted they do have some great programs, but it's not all it's cracked up to be.

I have two children at the Academy. They are in primary, K and 2nd. We think very highly of the school, its administrators and its teachers! Before sending my first child to school I investigated all my options including home school. I found the Academy to have strong academics and a wonderful performing arts component. The latter interested me because my son was extremely shy and I thought this would help bring him 'out of his shell'. Well he did! Right at kindergarten students are in front of the class and given much encouragement for doing so. They recite to them and lead them in activities. The teachers are wonderfully skilled and interested in their students. I know this first hand as I try to be in and out of the classrooms at least three days a week. We're like a small family and that's not found everywhere!

I have four children enrolled at the Academy of Performing Arts. They came out of a Catholic school. The block system works well, and they have no problems changing classes and teachers. I find that the frequent Star testing allows the teachers to create classes with like-skilled children together. This process allows teachers teach the appropriate skill level for the children in that class. As a result no child gets too far behind or is not being challenged. The teachers at the Academy love it there. They are progressive and proactive, and encouraged to teach creatively. My fifth grader, whose language arts skill level is high school, is in a class with students of her same skill level. The teacher taught language arts using the study of Opera! This came about after the teacher had sat next to a lady on a plane who asked him what type of music he enjoyed. After telling her he liked everything but opera, she informed him that her son was a well known opera star, and explained that he should know a bit more of what he was talking about before making a judgement like that! He came home and re-configured his lesson plan around popular operas, such as Les Miserables, Don Quiote, etc. My child was excited, educated and involved. It was wonderful to listen to her tell what she had learned and how it make the English language and writing skills so much more exciting. Each child chooses a musical instrument of their choice, and takes that class each day. Additionally, the children take piano class each week. This has been very helpful with improving reading skills and attention spans. This has been a great school. I recommend that if you are willing to invest the time in your child, and get involved, this is a great school for you. Your child will love it!
