Palomar Independent Study High School is in fact a hidden jewel. My kids have gone full circle from private to public schools, regular-schedule- public schools, magnet, charter, home school and independent study, and any combination of the above. The teachers are all experienced, credentialed, really get to know the students, and provide a holistic approach to High School education. The students are able to form close friendships that can last a lifetime. The safety of the school is awesome. The school curriculum is better in many ways than the average private and public High School in the area. Because of the independent study nature of the program, kids learn valuable study skills. The can also take classroom and /or on-line classes at the community college. Kids gain study and work habits they can easily transfer to the job market. The school system to works here.
My son is finally acheiving something. He is lost in the crowd at a big school. The teachers here actually show and interest in him. Their goal is to make sure he understands the material. If you are tired of the problematic high schools in Vista Unified. Send your kid here where they care about them as much as you do. They even teach music and rock band...and things kids really want to learn and respond to.
Palomar High School is Vista Unifieds hidden jewel. It is an independent study school with seminar classes, math and science labs. If your student doesn't fit the mold of the regular comprehensive high school, if they want to attend community college courses while attending high school, if the want to graduate early or all of the above, then Palomar is the school for them. Our students received one-on-one attention at this public school. It was fabulous! I didn't have to worry. The teachers are all accredited by the state of California and the school is accredited by WASC, the same accreditiation as RBV, VHS and other public schools. My children and I have been quite pleased.
My daughter has learned and accomplished more in 3 months at Palomar than at her high school in Oceanside that she was enrolled in. Her teacher, Ms. Spencer, has been a wonderful help and a great mentor. She is a junior and her goal is to graduate this year. Thank you to schools like this!
