My daughter has been attending this school for 4 years now. As a fifth grader, she is doing well in school. I have showed and consistently talk to my child about how hard working will get her into her dream university. As a parent, I chose to volunteer one full day at school, and I see how what the teachers have done for the children. As many parents don't know, this school is made up of many ivy league teachers. Ranging from, Columbia, Yale, Cornell, UCLA, Harvard and more. Plus this school has Smart boards equipped in every class, and lap tops, and 6 desk tops available in every classroom, this is like a dream school for many. The teachers works together as a team to educate the children in this school. The last years, I have had the honor to serve some wonderful teachers, and learned how they truly care for their students. This school might not be in the best district, but it is a school where teacher really teaches. Parents, I just want to note, that in a good school there are bad teachers, and in a bad school there are good teachers. Most important is how we raise our kids to challenge themselves, and how to make a difference in the environment they are in.

I would have to agree with the last post. I also went to Alvin Dunn, Paloma and San Marcos Middle, and San Marcos High School. SMUSD is an excellent district with excellent administration and teaching staff. My son is in kindergarten and is excelling dramatically past others his age. His teacher is excellent and the facilities are world class. Not only is the school new, but it is thoroughly maintained at all times. With recent flu epedemics, I see teachers who utilize hand sanitizer for all of their students. My son also goes to the after school KOC program where I know the sanitize all of the games, tables, chairs and commons areas with Lysol other disinfectants. The front office staff is great! The receptionist is the same lady from when I attended Alvin Dunn almost 20 years ago and she recognized me, my name, and my parents names as well!

Please ignore the critical comment shown before. This parent is very ignorant; for one thing SMUSD chose the perfect location for a new school. I have been living in the area my whole life and for elementary school I attended Paloma, Carrillo, and Alvin Dunn elementaries. This part of SMUSD was in vital need of a neighborhood school. And to be honest with you, it doesnt matter how diverse the population is, as long as the teachers are good-which they are. The first year Joli Ann posted an API score of 821, already beating state expectations. When I attended Alvin Dunn it was 80% hispanic. I ended up fine:accepted to Cornell. And two of my friends that went there got into Berkeley and Vanderbilt. Any school in SMUSD is a good choice for your child. Ultimately, however, your child's success is up to you.

Joli Ann has no diversity what so ever and the school district knew that this was going to happen with the location and boundaries of the school. They should have put the school in a location that would have made the school more diverse. There is very little parent involvement and an almost non-existent PTO. If you're considering moving into this school's boundaries, I would think again.

Joli Ann has been open for a year now, and is one of the most beautiful schools I've seen. My son is in their special education program and has the mosy incredible teachers and aides I could ever have asked for. The classrooms are set up for optimal learning, working with each of the children's unique diferences.

I have to say this is a fantastic school. My son is in a special class and his kindergarden teacher Ms. M is amazing. The teachers and aids care a great deal for these children and have great communication with me as a parent. I am very pleased and feel blessed to be able to have him in such a wonderful school with a wonderful teacher. Thank you NL

The teachers are really good. The PTO is non-existant as far as my wife and I can tell. They held one meeting at the beginning of the year and we have not heard a word from the PTO since then.
