Profile Completeness

INTERMEDIATE

Want to improve this school’s profile? You can!

All schools on GreatSchools begin with BASIC completeness, which includes important information like contact details and test scores. It’s up to the school community to take the next steps. As a parent or community member, you can share what you know with other families by writing a review or answering a few questions about what the school offers. As a school leader, you can upload photos, describe school programs, and more with an Official school profile.

The completeness meter moves to INTERMEDIATE, then ADVANCED, and finally HONOR ROLL as you complete the following: 10 or more reviews, at least 1 photo, and 9 program questions parents find helpful.

This school is very unprofessional and disorganized. Staff doesn't return calls in admin office. Staff doesn't return e mails to parents or general msgs in the general mailbox.

Mountain Peak is offering approximately $1300 in educational funds per year per student. Other charter schools in the area are offering approximately $2000 or more per year in educational funds. This is a substantial difference when buying curriculum or PE classes for your student. The school is very Vista centered so if you are in another county don't expect the same services to be available. The new school coming into Mountain Peak this year has brought many new teachers who understand and embrace the nature of homeschooling, unlike many of the teachers and staff who have been at Mountain Peak for longer. The new teachers do seem to be bringing a lot to the table as long as you are in San Diego County.

We have recently joined Mountain Peak, transferring in from GSDA after the administrative troubles there. We have felt very welcomed so far. I respectfully disagree with the previous commenter regarding funding for students; we're thrilled so far with how much financial support we are receiving. I know that the large number of incoming GSDA staff and students have caused some disruption, but everything seems to be settling into place (more or less). The staff do a good job of putting student interests first, in my opinion. The increased offerings in on-site classes at the Vista location should provide a lot of options for parents.

If you are looking for small class sizes, Spanish immersion, dedicated teachers, and a partial home school option, this is your school! My daughter just completed Kindergarten here at the VLA and the the dual immersion program is fantastic. By the end of the year she was reading and writing in both languages. I also love the Friday home school/independent study day where parents can tailor the activities to meet their child's needs. Educationally I can only speak to Kindergarten at this point, but the teachers I have met in the other grades seem very dedicated and wonderful as well. Parent input is valued and the community couldn't be better!

Mountain Peak Charter School is a great school! Because it is smaller in size, I feel my daughter is safe there. The teacher/student ratio is awesome! It feels more like a family. Teachers are accommodating to circumstances that arise and enjoy teaching!

We love this school! It's our first year here and we can't say enough great things about it. We choose Mountain Peak's site based program (Vista Learning Academy) because of the small class sizes and the dual language program. This school's small so it doesn't have all the resources (sports, music, etc...) that other larger schools have but it makes up for it in a lot of other areas. The parents all know each other. The teachers really got to know my child and her needs. Everyone wants to be there and wants to be involved. There are also places for every parent to be involved in the school which I've seen is not the case at larger schools. Parents have a lot more access to their child's classroom and teacher then larger schools and I know what my child's learning throughout the year. That connection combined with the invaluable opportunity to learn Spanish is why we choose this school.

My daughter has been attending the Vista Learning Academy branch of Mountain Peak since kindergarten. The teachers of the VLA are very involved and want to see kids succeed. One of the things that drew me to the school in the first place was the full day kindergarten program, a much better option than the 3 hour per day programs available from most of the public schools in the area. I have been extremely pleased that the teachers were willing to work with me and and my child to make sure that she received the challenge she needed. She is now in the 4th grade, and very happy at Mountain Peak's Vista Learning Academy. I'm so glad we didn't choose a huge public school with enormous class sizes. The small classes and positive atmosphere of the VLA are ideal for just about any student.

Mountain Peak is a great school!! Yes, it has some negatives at times, but really doesn't all schools have positives and negatives?? The good thing is they are eager to hear parent input and fix the negatives when they arise. I have 3 children there and this is my oldest 5th year. Their Spanish is great and when asked if they would ever want to switch they have a firm NO. The teachers are some of the best I've worked with. My son went to a Vista Unified School for his first two years and the second teacher he had was horrible. We are very happy with the education and the curriculum of Mountain Peak. It's a small school and I love that everybody knows my kids and each other. If you want your child to learn both Spanish and English, and have excellent loving teachers, this is the place!

As a first year teacher at Mountain Peak I've found the administration and fellow teachers to be extremely supportive. Student learning is the focal point of every decision. I am excited about the future with Mountain Peak, especially after a really positive experience with our recent WASC review.

The selling point for me on this school is the Spanish component. My daughter has been here two years and her Spanish skills are strong. There are small class sizes and great teachers. The new leadership at the school is really developing a strong curriculum that focuses on excelling in both languages. As parents, we are looking for like-minded families. If you want a personal, dual language school, come and visit to see for yourself!

I can't even give this school a star. My son has aspergers syndrome-HIGHLY functional, genius level. He missed his first semester credits from his 9th grade year this school year due to severe illness. I tried signing him up with this school so he could fix that. They took our paperwork, gave us a very promising interview and then I signed everything. They didn't get back to me for a week, I called, nothing....2 weeks went by, still nothing...then 3 and I finally called again and said what is going on. They said we can't have your son at this school because he doesn't have his first semester credits and it will make our school look bad. That was the VERY WORDS of the teacher that would of been my son's teacher. I was appalled. They ONLY care about money and their reputation, NOT about whether a child is educated. DO NOT enroll your child in this school, your child is money to them. I was just forced to give it one star before I submit again, it doesn't deserve even one, let that be duly noted.

Very unsatisfactory! I agree with the other reviewers. Something is very wrong with this so called school district. They change their policies all the time, fire staff, and have terrible people working there. The home school parents seem to just want the instructional dollars to spend on karate and piano lessons and not for academics. The kids seem very undereducated and the district lets them get away with it. This is a huge waste of taxpayer dollars. Don't send your kids here.

The only good thing about this school is about 2-3 teachers that hold the whole program together! The current Director is awful to her staff, students and families. She fired all of the teachers that actually knew how to teach. Do not send your child there if you want them to truly learn, have any relevant education and don't expect the admin to be preparing their school for college bound curriculum. A really shame how far this school has fallen under her "rath". She has no experience and it clearly shows

Horrible school! The Director of Educational Programs and Services Woman Is Horrible She Lacks Support For The School, Its Her Way Or The Highway. The Lady Is Crazy And She Is Going To Run The School Down To The Ground Again! Guess They Didn't Learn The First Time... AVOID IF POSSIBLE!!!

This has to be the most dysfunctional school I have worked for. The current Director has removed all the great teachers and seems to be a on a real power trip! She has no experience as an admin and she is incompetent as a leader of this school. As a highly respected teacher, I would never work under that woman again. The students deserve better!

I am so happy homeschooling my children through this parent choice, public charter school. The teachers that we are assigned to meet with monthly are all wonderful. There are many opportunities for field trips and park days. Mountain Peak has an excellent Rescource Library and offers classes two days per week at a Learning Center in Tustin. My family loves the flexibility that Mountain Peak gives us; our kids attend classes one day per week, "recess" with kids in the park after school, go on field trips, and still have a home-centered education. This school is an excellent option for families that want to homeschool, but don't want to go it completely alone. The school offers generous flex funds and a wonderfully supportive staff. GREAT school!
