No. The staff and the principal and the vice principal are all a joke. The counsellors are new. The only person I talked to in the office with any sense of knowledge is the school psychologist.

My son is a 6th. Grader. The curriculum and teachers are great. However, the in office staff is horrible. I have had so many problems with the staff and the principal. It seems like one staff memver doesn't know what the other one is doing. I Have complained numerous times to the school the school district and the superintendent so many times. A top rated school should have there staff rate just the same. If I could rate the staff alone I would give them 1 star the teachers a 5 star. Good luck

South pointe is amazing. This school is by far the best middle school in the district. At first, I put my son in Suzanne for sixth grade. It was bad there. He had a better time at south pointe

Today I attended a funeral if a middle school child who committed suicide because of "bullying". As a parent of a child who once attended the school, I chose to send my child to South Point because of academics and of their "anti bullying approach" that the principle so highly spoke of when myself and other parents toured the school for the first time. Needless to say my child no longer attends the school and "Bullying" very much exist at South Point. It appeared In my experience that the bullies at South Point had more rights, and administration and the district seemed to be more concerned in protecting their rights then securing a safe environment for my child and the safety of others. I would not recommend this school to anyone.

You will NEVER regret sending your child to South Pointe MS...I'm an incoming 7th grade student at SPMS and my 6th grade year was the BEST! Panther Camp was AMAZING and there's two Cores in 6th grade Core A and Core B...out of both Cores there was always 1 hilarious teacher. The academics are great and P.E. has never been so FUN! Take advantage of ALL the opportunities at this amazing school and once again I shall say...You'll NEVER Regret It!

Between all my children going to three different middle schools, South Pointe is by far the best. Great, supportive, hard-working administration who are available to students, parents, and teachers alike, who set the tone in terms of kids being held accountable and reaching new heights in academics and citizenship. Out of all the teachers and classes, I can find no complaints. Outstanding band program wow, wow, wow! Great campus and overall great kids. Though there is no perfect school, it is hard to find faults in this one. My kids have attended two other middle schools, one ranking a 10 and one ranking a 9 on great schools.com, and this easily outshines the others.

My child attended all 3 years a Southpointe. We had several unpleasant interactions with at least 5 of the teachers at this school. My feeling is that some of the teachers felt they had the right to speak to the students any way they chose even if inappropriate and degrading. However, there was one staff member and one teacher who were outstanding as champions for my child and gave my child full support. Because of them I averaged my rating at 3stars. All I can say is that I will be looking for another middle School for my younger child. My younger child is an A student but she is far too sensitive for a school like Southpointe. I fear for the damage burnt out teachers could cause to her confidence. Perfect test scores does not make the perfect school! There is a certain type of child that will do well at this school. But,If your child is one who communicates with you, and you are the type that will support your child when they are poorly treated, then Southpointe may not be the school for you.

i just promoted from south pointe. It has been such a great enviroment to learn in. The teachers are also very amazing, they all care for there students and will take their time when a student needs some extra help. I personally think the band program is wonderful. The top group, wind ensamble, has been all the way to Europe to play, and they have been to carnegie hall in new york several times. Many middle school's can't offer things like that, and when you expierience it for yourself, it is a great learning expierience.

South Pointe Middle School is the greatest school of all. My daughter has changed dramatically, in a good way from when she entered the school. Their band groups are absolutely incredible. I would definitely give this school a seven out of five stars!

Im a current 8th grader at south pointe M.S Overall, the teachers are good, but i just wish that they could spend a little more 'one - one' for a student to understand the subject.

I'm a 7th grader at south pointe and I think its a great school. It's extremely challenging and theres a lot of things that you can do.I'm one of the trumpets in band and there's a lot of great pieces of music.South pointe changed my view on life, and especially music! thanks to mrs.Acciani, the band director

I wanted my son to come live with me in Los Angeles, but SPMS is such a great school I just can't bring myself to pull him out of this school. It's far better than most schools in L.A. that I have heard about. The parent involvement is superb and superior and the music curriculum is second to none. I feel we're lucky to have ended up at SPMS.

I feel that kids who are below average in there test scores are the ones who end up falling between the cracks of the school system. yes this schools has great test scores but what about the kids who need help and dont get it, there has been nothing done for them to help them bring up there grades. or there scores, the walnut valley school district cares alot about there sat9 scores that is why they allow other kids out of the district in to the district to bring up those scores the schools have about 90% asian students who are very smart kids compare to everyone else.

I'm a 8th grade student at SPMS. This is my last year at south pointe, and I have been very pleased with my time there. The school campus is the best I have ever seen for a middle school, we have great technology and a awsiome gymnasium. The teaching staff is very reliable and friendly! The SSRA's know every student by name, which is very nice(somtimes bad though). I think south pointe has changed the way i look at school.

I have a 7th grader at this school. Teachers have been very good and most of them have been challenging. Having come from a private school setting, I did not expect it to be as good academically, but to my surprise, it has. She has enjoyed the extracurricular activities that her private school did not have either.

Profile Completeness

Want to improve this school's profile?

All schools on GreatSchools begin with BASIC completeness, which includes important information like contact details and test scores. It’s up to the school community to take the next steps. As a parent or community member, you can share what you know with other families by writing a review or answering a few questions about what the school offers. As a school leader, you can upload photos, describe school programs, and more with an Official school profile.

The completeness meter moves to INTERMEDIATE, then ADVANCED, and finally HONOR ROLL as you complete the following: 10 or more reviews, at least 1 photo, and 9 program questions parents find helpful.
