Excellent public education despite the dwindling available public funds. Parents make up the difference, helping in the classroom and at the school so that teachers may focus on teaching. Great test scores are achieved WITHOUT teaching to the test. Kids learn in creative and interest-building ways in a very supportive environment. Fantastic community in a small school where it's possible to know just about everyone, kids and their families. An absolute gem of a school.

Excellent parent participation school. PE drama music for all students at least three times a week. Run by a parent board. Many trips including science camp, monterey bay aquarium extended [full week] camping trips, students encouraged to take electives including robotics band cooking yearbook photography and composition. Small school [200 kids] k-8. A well regraded preschool on site provides many of kinder candidates. In general this school requires a good deal of parental involvement, but it provides a real insight into your child's education. I would strongly recommend Linscott to any parent who is looking for a good academic and social school for their child.

Intimate middle school size has benefits and some disadvantages. Generally a safe and supportive environment for kids, although they do not get much opportunity to learn inner control. Discipline system is Skinnerian and externally imposed. Academics focus on state standards and not much on on higher level learning.

Parent involvement is very high at Linscott. Parents make up half the governing board and commit to working 4.5 hours per week in the classroom, there are also monthly meetings and fund raising help. This atmosphere makes for a strong sense of community but can also lead to a lot of 'opinions' and efforts to reinvent the wheel. Kids do well here, but parents can become burnt out. Focus on experiential learning through field trips, hands on and individual attention.

Linscott is an opportunity to be involved in your childs education. It is publicly funded but run by the parents and teachers. You work 4 hrs/week in your childs class, in various capacities. It's gives you and your children a sense of community education. The quality of education is outstanding. Many articles written about our academic success. We have art and music but no school sports teams. This is a fantanstic school that incorporates all childrens learning styles, with oustanding field trips, including 4 days in Yosemite, 5 days at the Marine Institute on Catalina Island in 8th grade.
