school is very violent and needs a sercurity for every lunch line because of students shoving and unmature behavoir and school needs to be more organized, as well the school overall isn't very safe

school is currently being remodeled,under construction.The new all weather track and field was an exelcellent upgrade the wcusd district put money into showing us our tax dollars are actually going into the citys schools. The teachers are among one of the best set of any teachers in any highschool primarily because they show care and help students when they struggle. during lunch however,the students seem to be racialy divided. the security has a outstanding rapid response when a fight occurs which is an average i hear of 1-3 times a week which is poor but can improve with more dedication on keeping students with a positive influence and showing them how they can do better which many teachers are i 've noticed already have done. more parent involvement is needed as well overall this is a great highschool to attend it all depends on what the student is looking for.=)

West Covina High has the groundwork set to become one of the most prestigious High Schools in the Valley. Our teachers work very hard to help students succeed, giving up much of the their free time to achieve this. I urge the School Board and Superintendant to support them! Please don't be responsible for disrupting our upward trend by micro-managing from afar. Our Teachers are professionals, continue to treat them as such.

I ve been fortunate to have one daughter graduate from WCHS (with honors) and another one attending and excelling now. Overall I think this is an excellent high school with caring teachers, interesting activities and great athletic opportunities. One of the best things about WCHS is the principal, Mr. Jim Coombs. He s a dedicated, passionate educator who continues to raise the bar and motivate everybody he comes into contact with. C. Bormann

I liked West Covina High School. First of all, the city atmosphere here is very good, which significantly promotes learning. The teachers and staff here are great as well, with every academic department providing cares and advise to our students. Also, the extracurricular activities here are great; nearly everyone has some afterschool activities to do, instead of just coming to school and then going home. West Covina's education has done a lot to develop our future scientists, physicians, writers, etc. I recommend this school if you expect your child to be well-rounded in many areas.

Jim Coombs is an awesome principal and he challenges and encourages his staff to do their best. This school cares about it's students and their success. It is a California Distinguished School and has a six year WASC accreditation. WCHS offers an ROTC program, lots of clubs and extracurricular activities.

West Covina HS has the best extra curricular activities, championship winning sports and performing arts. It's organizations are completely student run and the sense of community is outstanding!

I disagree about the number of students teachers are responsible for. Teachers class loads are 35:1, with no more than 175 students among their five classes. I do not know where the comment of 500 or 1000 even comes from. I have found the school to be safe and clean, with a very caring staff. Success is expected for all students, and they have numerous outreach programs for students and parents: Parent University, Mandatory Academic Study Hall, University & College outreaching programs w/ test prep, counseling (individual and group), and targeted at risk programs.

This school is over crowded, just way too many students! Teachers are responsible for more than 500 students, I know a teacher that has over 1000 students she is responsible for.

The school is located in a safe and nurturing environment, where students are allowed to enjoy their time at school. The teachers teach at a satisfactory level and need much improvement.(referring to the math teachers mostly) I would recommend a child to attend this school.

About the tests


In 2012-2013 California used the California Standards Tests (CSTs) to test students in English language arts in grades 2 through 11; math in grades 2 through 7; science in grades 5, 8 and 10; and history-social science in grades 8 and 11. Middle and high school students also took subject-specific CSTs in math and science, depending on the course in which they were enrolled. The CSTs are standards-based tests, which means they measure how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of California. The goal is for all students to score at or above proficient on the tests.

The different student groups are identified by the California Department of Education; if there are fewer than 10 students in a particular group in a school, the state doesn't report data for that group.
