We were so lucky to win the lottery last year for kindergarten! We can't find the better school for our daughter who loves everything about her school, including the warmest classroom teacher, arts, yoga, PE,gardening and cooking and an awesome music class twice a week. We toured many schools including private schools even though we couldn't afford them.Along the research,I became familiar with the constructive learning theory which was adopted by a popular UCLA Lab school, which we also went to see,and which is truly implemented at our own school!! So grateful for the curriculum, incredible teachers and the principal and the school environment in which each child is respected and encouraged to be independent and an active learner. We commute for over 30minutes one way,but it so worth it!

My daughter started kindergarten here in Sept. 2011. She really enjoys the school and loves her teacher. The principal is wonderful and the community is warm and welcoming. Through the Edible School Yard, swiss chard is now a weekly vegetable in our house. Couldn't be happier! We really did win the lottery!

Terrific school. Great teachers and leadership. Diverse and eager students. Cool programs (Edible Schoolyard) and all the goodies missing from "regular" schools these days (physical education, art, music). I hope someday that when the school is bigger they will have a librarian-educator for their collection. And really, awesome, caring, and totally engaged parents. Plus, no prison food!

LCW in 2010-11 is in just its 3rd year (K-3, expanding to K-5 next year and ultimately K-8), but its kind of remarkable how awesome it is already. Principal Kristin is a superb leader -- she has a special talent for making parents/stakeholders feel "heard" and yet being a clear leader and in charge. The kids, and parents, love that she not only knows each child, but is present for drop-off/pick-up almost every day. The small community (just 2 classes per grade) is so warm and connected and supportive -- everyone seems to feel truly lucky to be part of this school! The fact that all three years have had 100% participation in the pledge drive -- even with growing %age of free-lunch kids -- shows how much parents appreciate this school. My kids are thriving and happy and adore their teachers. We are very lucky!

Each child is considered individually in thier learning "process". The benefits of this are very apparent to this grand parent. The fearlessness a child will engage in learning also comes with personal success. My grandson Aidan's joy in his first year of school goes beyond what he realizes. Academics and the excitement to tackle the tough questions start the day our child walks into school on the first day.
