Have 2 at the school and couldn't be happier with the education they are getting. Small class sizes, along with the teachers showing personal interest in my kids. The sports and performing arts are awesome and they are growing spiritually.
My daughter just finished sixth grade and we both LOVE the school and the teachers. We will be there till 12th grade. She has excelled so much in one year academically, physically, and most importantly spiritually. She did not know one person there, but when she walked in the doors of the school she said she felt she belonged there. She absolutely loves OC.
All five of my kids have gone to Oaks Christian School since 2001. Four have graduated and two have already graduated from college. I have had prior experience with various other schools for elementary education before Oaks was built and was amazed to finally come to a school that consistently has an authentic Christ centered campus from day one until present. (this goes with the cont...below)
This is the second to last day of school (really the last day for academic purposes), and my son, who just completed 6th grade at Oaks, came up to me and thanked me for sending him to OCS because he had just completed a fantastic year. I would have to concur. He had terrific teachers who were responsive and thoughtful and helpful when I had questions or concerns, and kept his interest and motivation high throughout the school year, both in subjects that I knew he would find interesting and in subjects where I was frankly surprised by the interest the teacher was able to generate because they were not in his sweet spot. I found the level of sprituality among the teachers delightfully high. I personally could do with without the sports emphasis, but it matters to my son, so i am glad it is available to him at a high level. I did hope that the Christian emphasis would counteract the LA affluenza that usually goes down in LA private schools, and that hasn't turned out to be the case. But generally I feel very blessed that Oaks exists and that my child can attend.
My son knows he is blessed to attend such a wonderful school as Oaks Christian. We travel 30 to 45mins one way to get him to school, but he never complains about the commute. In fact, he won't stay home from school when he is sick, because he doesn't want to miss a day. He tells me how much he is learning, how wonderful the teachers are because they truly care about you and his peers come from good families . He stays up late to do his homework, since Oaks is very high academic school, but he loves it. They offer support & assistance for your child's future college selection. The sports program is just an added blessing. Thank you Oaks for making a difference in my child's life.
Best decision and investment we ever made. Our daughter has just completed her freshman year in college and is not only prepared academically, but spiritually for the challenges of young adulthood. If a family and student invest themselves in all that is offered at Oaks Christian, they cannot help but be thrilled with the outcome. All schools have their flaws, it is about the opportunity and the attitude with which we approach those opportunities. We highly recommend this school for their academics, arts, athletics, school spirit and most importantly, the Chrisitan environment.
My daughter just comple her first year at OCS and while praying tonight she said."Dear God, just make the summer go fast" What kids want to go back to school??!! This year has been life changing both for my daughter and my family. For the first time we have found a home. After being in an environment where her spirit was being squelched, ostracized for her faith she is now blossoming into all that God has created her to be academically and spiritually. The teachers are constantly thinking outside the box. Her English teacher heavily incorporated technology into the class. Everything was fun for the kids and for the first time she enjoyed learning. She is being validated for who she is and loves school.
We are just completing our first year at Oaks with a Freshman and a Sophomore. We are not a sports family but find the commitment to excellence in the academics and the performing arts as well as sports. We moved here from out of state and our kids had a lot of adjusting to do. We, and they, feel the whole environment was supportive, inviting and challenging. Really glad we made the decision for, and the investment in, Oaks for our children's high school education.
Like many of the reviewers before me I am sad to say that I was extremely disappointed in the lack of integrity or leadership in the administration of the school. Broken promises, befuddling administrative decisions, and all of the worst kinds of superficial spirituality that is found in the "Joel Osteen" type churches of the world. Once again, like other reviewers before me, I will note that the facilities and surrounding community are both outstanding and the school's sports program has accomplished a nearly impossible amount of success in a very short time. Nevertheless, the SAT scores of the matriculating students are not in keeping with the $30k per year price tag and the academics are woefully behind other prep schools, which is almost certainly a result of the school's commitment to sports first. If your son or daughter has a legit shot at D-1 sports and the school will provide a full scholarship, Oaks Christian is a great choice. If, on the other hand, you are interested in the Christian environment or prep school academics run away as quickly as you can.
This school rocks because it has great great education and sports programs. It is very expensive though.
