I agree with other parents the the current principal is lacking some skills that would make her an ideal elementary school principal. She is not approachable to parents, and her interactions with children sometimes appear forced and uncomfortable. Despite her, the school is amazing! The parents and teachers more than make up for the principals shortcomings. There is a very active PFA that makes this school feel very welcoming and allows for extra learning opportunities for our children. Teachers work well with parents and are actively involved in making the school a special place for the children and families that attend there.

I have to say this is STILL a very good school, but it's not the GREAT school it was prior to the current principal. A principal isn't paid to only handle budgets and push pencils. They are hired for their knowledge of children's needs and behaviors as well as (hopefully) some common sense. I'm not interested in a principal who only leads by looking in rule books when it suits her and turning a cold shoulder when it doesn't. She's not an inspiring educator, she's a petty bureaucrat. Again, this is a very good school, but it has lost some of its luster. It's gone from a place that felt like family, to a family with a new stepmother who doesn't really like them very much.

This school is ok, but we want more for our daughter who just finished 1st grade. Her teacher made the classroom experience stressful, and the principal is not friendly, approachable, or open to feedback. She does, however, like to send very long emails and voicemails that border on rambling and disrespectful. We expected more from a blue ribbon school.

Westlake Hills is an excellent school. The teachers go above and beyond on a daily basis. I am extremely pleased with the education that my 1st and 2nd grader are receiving. Great school!!

My husband and I have been happy the past 2 years but are wanting a little more for our sons, our own personal preference, as we do feel there is a bit of decline in the quality of what the school used to be. We both went to top schools and want that too for our own children.

Too cliquish. Not as happy with always asking for more money or to volunteer more time. Some of us have to work and can not work in the classrooms.

This school has been good in the past but has been in decline this past year. The principal is spread too thin, and the budget cuts have let this school fall apart. The teachers are still ok but we are hoping to switch our 1st and 3rd graders to a better school that has been recommended within CVUSD via school choice for next term.

Best school, offers band, orchestra, chorus and Spanish as electives, at a small cost. Teachers and kids are great.

Westlake Hills sets the standard for the impact of concerned parent involvement, as well as the importance of having a devoted principal. Jon Sand has done much for this school in the past few years. He's caring and effective, and he genuinely cares about the individual student. He even started playing chess at lunch recess with a couple of highly gifted (and yes, probably somewhat bored) students. He knows the kids by name. He walks the campus, picking up trash, clearing the blacktop of sand, reinforcing good sportsmanship among the kids. The teachers, generally speaking, are highly motivated to be an outstanding and lasting influence on the kids. Despite state cuts, they manage to inspire and engage the kids. The parents are amazing. Most moms seem to devote themselves to volunteering, and it shows! We raised about 300K in one evening this spring, to fund PE, music, art and the library! Westlake Hills rocks!

We have been at this chool on a nd off for the last 10 years . I believe it to be the best elementary school in the conejo valley. We are leaving this year and I feel like I am leaving my famiy. My two children have grown up at this school and recieved top educations . Teachers are beyond reproach. Dr. sand the pricipal is caring and approachable and knows an amazinf # of the students and parents by their first names. the after school programs are very good. You cannot find a more devoted group of teachers. A little tough in the carpool line so get there early. I have always walked my children to and from school. But overall I give the school an A+

This is a great school with very dedicated and capable teachers. Students are encouraged to participate in meaningful activities that encourage the use of higher order thinking skills. The collaborative approach to education, between teachers, staff, parents and community, enhances the students' learning experience.

This school is excellent. We transfered my son from a private school in the Conejo Valley, where he was unchallenged and not given work according to his ability. Now that he is at Westlake Hills Elementary, he is thriving. This school rivals all the private schools in the area.

As a credentialed teacher, I can tell you that W. Hills Elem. gives way too much HW, (expectations of 7th grade reading for 3rd graders?)cares little about how they affect the students emotionally as long as they get to show off their scores. They willingly hold kids back to up scores, not to help the kids. I have seen devastation here, but the parents are not understanding because they are told scores is all that counts.

Westlake Hills Elementary is the reason we moved to the Conejo Valley and specifically this neighborhood. This is an exemplary schhol with highly involved parents. Rachelle Morga raised the bar for principals. She will be missed. There are many families that have the means available for Private School tuition, yet they choose Westlake Hills Elementary for the academic, social and community benefits. Parents that involve themselves in the school at any level make this school an outstanding environment for their kids.
