I agree with other parents the the current principal is lacking some skills that would make her an ideal elementary school principal. She is not approachable to parents, and her interactions with children sometimes appear forced and uncomfortable. Despite her, the school is amazing! The parents and teachers more than make up for the principals shortcomings. There is a very active PFA that makes this school feel very welcoming and allows for extra learning opportunities for our children. Teachers work well with parents and are actively involved in making the school a special place for the children and families that attend there.
I have to say this is STILL a very good school, but it's not the GREAT school it was prior to the current principal. A principal isn't paid to only handle budgets and push pencils. They are hired for their knowledge of children's needs and behaviors as well as (hopefully) some common sense. I'm not interested in a principal who only leads by looking in rule books when it suits her and turning a cold shoulder when it doesn't. She's not an inspiring educator, she's a petty bureaucrat. Again, this is a very good school, but it has lost some of its luster. It's gone from a place that felt like family, to a family with a new stepmother who doesn't really like them very much.
This school is ok, but we want more for our daughter who just finished 1st grade. Her teacher made the classroom experience stressful, and the principal is not friendly, approachable, or open to feedback. She does, however, like to send very long emails and voicemails that border on rambling and disrespectful. We expected more from a blue ribbon school.
My husband and I have been happy the past 2 years but are wanting a little more for our sons, our own personal preference, as we do feel there is a bit of decline in the quality of what the school used to be. We both went to top schools and want that too for our own children.
This school has been good in the past but has been in decline this past year. The principal is spread too thin, and the budget cuts have let this school fall apart. The teachers are still ok but we are hoping to switch our 1st and 3rd graders to a better school that has been recommended within CVUSD via school choice for next term.
