The Broadoaks Childrens School

My child has attended this school since kinder and she will be in the first 7th grade class as well as the first 8th grade class. I am very satisfied as I have a stait A student whom is respectful of others and a enjoys learning. The staff is exceptional and so are the students. This school isn't for everyone but it is the best! I highly recommend this school if you want your child to enjoy learning and focused.

Broadoaks' strength lies in its size (approx 200 K-6 students with a great teacher:student ratio). With such a small student population, teachers at every grade level really get to know students and their families in order to personalize their instruction and deliver it with great personal caring. The curricula are generated by teachers based on their students' needs with the guidance of college faculty. Every parent is required to volunteer their time on campus, on a committee, or in some substantive form, including spending time working with students at home. The school offers every semester 'special' extracurricular classes such as choir, impressionist art, violin, basketball, chess, German, etc. I chose the school because of its focus on developing students' social awareness as well as for its diversity in student population.

Initially I sent my child here to grow socially. That was 4 years ago. We are still here and I would highly recommend anyone considering this school to look further into it. It is such an amazing school. The ratios are outstanding and the curriculum is very effective. Children are respected and treated fairly.

The Broadoaks Children's school at Whittier College is a Teaching School. They focus on the dvelopment of each individual child and try to enhance the childs learning by gearing the activities to the things each child enjoys. The school is very small with only one class per grade. Space is limited as siblings of existing students usually get enrolled first. The teacher to student ratio is 1:12 or less and there are many teachers aides - Child Eductation students - from the campus who assist with the daily activities. The Broadoaks program also is very well suited to children who may be a little overwhelmed by a large school environment as the classrooms are very homey and comfortable for the children. Overall we have been very satisfied by the education we have received at this school.

My child has attended this school since kindergarten, This school is a parents dream school, the teachers are responsive if something is not working they listen, seek input and make corrections. They seem to anticipating our childrens development by providing appropriate activities and challenges,I am so happy (and spoiled) by this school that my expectations for other schools/childrens activities are often too high. The Staff are extraordinary in many ways, they develop personal relationships with the students and parents jointly and help to keep the cohesiveness between home and school consistent. The administration is also very responsive, the processes used in administration allow easy changes and few roadblocks to parent interaction. Parents feel empowered at this school and so do our children. The Children are encouraged to value their thoughts and those of the other children. My only regret is that it is k-6 and not k-8.
