Great, small school where we have wonderful teachers and administrators. State scores would be higher bur with a school that is 80% Spanish, many of whom do not want to learn, or their parents do not want to learn, lowers the Americans scores. We have had to lengthen he Christmas break because when many return to Mexico for the break, they stay longer than the three weeks off. With this action comes a lose of funding by the state as schools are paid, I believe, $30 for everyday the student is present in school. Lost funding and low interest in learning the English language have hurt our school.
This school is very unsatisfactory and quite below par. It needs more funding and better afterschool activities.
High expectations in the classroom taught by hard working, dedicated, qualified staff who are committed to student success. Teachers stay and are anchored to this school and community. Good support in counseling center, and administrators support educators and students well. Many opportunities for students to compete in athletics and student career technical programs by taking animals to the fair and seeking student leadership offices beyond the local level.
The academic programs are good and getting better. The School is 80% Hispanic and many have difficulty reading and comprehending English. The HS has consistantly ranked an 8 or 9 out of 10 on the STAR tests for schools with similar student populations.
Improving daily. Excellent music program for students. High school Vice-Principal has done an excellent job reducing tardies and unexcused absences. School spirit is on the rise as well. Very devoted and hard-working teachers. They volunteer a staggering amount of time to extra activities for the kids. Small town feel but growing like crazy. Parent involvement could be better. Many commuting parents and parents working very long hours in agriculture cuts down on involvement, but it seems to be improving. The school has worked very hard over the past several years to improve state test scores and make sure student are graduating with courses needed for college. The school is also offering AP courses for college credit to qualified students.
Poor administration. Community does not want to lose farmworkers to college or vocational training. Some excellent teachers. Athletics more important than academics to principal- stifles creative staff and rewards coaches/teachers at expense of kids education.
