I have worked at Calvert for a while. I really like the new principal. He has a different way of working with the community and staff, than the previous administration. I agree that he has room for growth, but the community has asked for several things and he is addressing them. Higher test scores - he has implemented the learning center, intervention that is meaningful, more focus on core instruction, etc.. Better behavior standards - students who don't behave are dealt with (and their parent's too). If you want different results, you have to do things differently.

As a parent of this school, I wish all comments (positive & negative) would be "allowed to remain on the page"! Both types of comments allow growth & changes which is always good! It's sad that others would "report" comments that parents feel strongly about, just because he/she might not agree! I noticed my comment (early 2012) has been removed. I did not mention "names"! I simply wrote about "areas" the school needs improvements in! Dominating the page with "only positive feedback" will not improve test scores and increase state funds! Instead, it will just hide any genuine opinions or concerns parents have to make Calvert the best it can be! No need to sugar-coat it people! Keep it real so we can work as a team to fix whats wrong!

Entering our final year at Calvert - fifth grade! - and we are extremely happy about our experience here. There are some changes - as to be expected with new leadership - but we are getting to know each other and I am confident the kids still come first. We have had none of the problems described below - and have felt comfortable voicing any concerns we've had. When a teacher hasn't been the best fit we were able to move our child to another class. Hooray for the Class of 2012!

Calvert is s GREAT school with wonderful parents and staff. I have a 2nd grader and a Kindergartener and they are both so happy to go to school each day. Their teachers are wonderful. The teachers are all carring and take the time to get to know each child. I am very exited that this is the year that my children get to play on grass everyday!!!!!

We are so excited to start Calvert this year for first grade. We had a bad experience at another school last year in kindergarten and are so optimistic she will do great at Calvert. Already the staff is so nice and helpful and school hasn't even started yet.

We have two kids at Calvert and one on the way. For being a public school this school has a wonderful dedicated staff of Teachers and a great Principal as well as caring staff. The community involvement to add Green to the property is fantastic. There is a very diverse group of families at this school which is a great example of the community. The added arts of music dance drawing athletics are all so imperative for our kids and with the very limited budget this school does it best to make sure the kids are exposed to all sorts of options.

Calvert offers a chorus group in the first half of the year which was very helpful for my daughter to learn vocal skills and interact with other children her age.

I was hesitant about sending my daughter to public school with all the budget cuts but sending her to Calvert is probably the best decision I have made. The teachers are great and they strive to give the students the best education while looking for opportunities to enhance their education through off campus field trips. Their dedication to the students is great they are there way past their call of duty and are eager to set up their classrooms in the summer before school starts. My daughter is very happy there and I am glad to see that even though LAUSD is making a lot of drastic changes their spirit is in the right place - the children come first.
