I have been pleasantly suprised with La Contenta. I had heard many negative things about it in the past. As a parent who has had a student at La Contenta previously, and didn't have a great experience I would like like to say it has improved. My two students who attend there have thrived and have great teachers. They are challenged academically daily. When having to correspond with the teachers and staff, they have been prompt and helpful in every way. The musical program is great, and the AVID program has been very helpful to my student. The after school programs at La Contenta have been excellent. We are really enjoying the school year and would recomend this school to all.

La Contenta is a middle school. We supply students with binder reminders so they can put their assignments in them. It is up to the student and parent to then make sure it is done and brought back to class. I have several students who bring me their binder reminder to sign so the parent knows that it is correct. If the parent does not wish to follow throught than that can be a problem for your child. We also have parent visitation day every 1st Wed. of the month. Very few parents are coming. We have a parent group that very few parents are involved in. We have parenting classes which again have few parents that come. There are a lot of things at this school for kids to get involved, but then I guess there would be nothing to complain about. Get involved for better school.

I really hope someone from the school reviews these and can see that the parents are not happy with how things are being run. Maybe someone should mail a copy of the parent comments. I strongly feel the school is failing our children in the way of their education and with their lack of involment with the parents. Sometimes staff needs to put a little extra time and effort forward, or is it all about getting paid?

There are the goods and bads of this school. I am an student here and SOME of the teachers here are good. Ms. Gragg, is one of those really good teachers. I have her for English and history. I don't like the P.E. teachers AT ALL though. Overall, this school is pretty average.

Very poor parent/teacher communications as well as administration. The school provides a 'binder reminder' or a blank notebook that is intended for the kids to write down their homework for the parents to check. Problem: the kids don't write down all that is due or expected as homework. Very truamatic for kids and parents. If you are fortunate enough to have options, do not choose this school, it is a nightmare.

Don't send a gifted student to this school. You would be better sending a gifted child to an inferior private school than to subject them to the horrible problems at La Contenta. This school is determined to force every child to the lowest common denominator and keep them there. Only the high quality of the teachers keeps me from pulling my child out. Many people refuse to enroll a child in this school, and they may be right.
