Dress code Dress code: The dress code is part of the Student Handbook which is given to every student at the beginning of the school year. The Student Handbook is also on the district website. The general guideline is that student dress be conductive to promoting a business-like work atmosphere within the school rather than a distractive atmosphere. The School Board of Directors has the authority to make reasonable and necessary rules governing the conduct of students in school.

  • The mission of the Windber Area School District is to ensure all students the opportunity to acquire the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary to solve problems, communicate effectively, and be responsible citizens, while preparing for a life of continual growth and learning through a premier educational environment.

Instructional Program Highlights
  • Windber Area High School is a Pennsylvania Classrooms for the Future participant. 21st centtury technology has been integrated into all math, science, social studies and language classrooms.

Activities and Sports
  • Girls sports: basketball, cheerleading, cross country, golf, soccer, softball, tennis, track and volleyball.
  • Boys sports: basketball, baseball, cross country, football, golf, soccer, tennis, track, wrestling and hockey.
  • Clubs and extra-curricular activities include: National Honor Society - Grades 10-12; no cost Criteria - academics, leadership, service and character Each student in grades 10, 11 and 12 who is academically eligible for consideration will be evaluated by a faculty committee. The student must submit an application and essay to be reviewed by the faculty committee. Sudents conduct various fund raisers to benefit local charities; Forensics - Grades 9-12; no cost Competitions are held at local high schools with successful students advancing to regional, state and national levels; TATU - Teens Against Tobacco Use - Grades 10-12; no cost Students are selected by the High School principal; based on their academics, activites and beliefs. Students attend several trainings and conferences during the school year. TATU members go into the Grade 4 and 5 classrooms several times a year to present their message to these students. TATU members also volunteer at the Elementary School for Elementary Health Week; Service Club - Grades 10-12; dues are $1.00 per year Students do a variety of community service projects - Community Light Up Night (November); snow shoveling for elderly residents of the school district; 2 Blood drives per school year (organized by the local Red Cross); Scholastic Quiz - Grades 9-12; no cost Tryouts are conducted at the beginning of the school year. Students compete against other local high schools in two seasons - fall and spring; Young Educators Club - Grades 9-12 and no cost Students who are interested teaching or childcare. Members conduct a canned food drive at Christmas for the local food pantry and various other activities to benefit local charities.
