The Director of Development will embody the mission and values of GreatSchools, develop an innovative advancement plan that facilitates the realization of GreatSchools' vision, manage a team of development professionals nationally and locally, and work directly with a portfolio of donors and prospects, largely from the corporate, foundation and major gift sectors.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Develop strategic and operational development plans that facilitate realization of fundraising goals. Special emphasis on corporate, foundation and major gift support.
  • Leverage GreatSchools' distinctive programs and new offerings to engage prospects and current constituents.
  • Lead, inspire and train a development team that includes national as well as regional staff.
  • Work with media sales staff to convert GreatSchools' considerable assets of more than 80 national corporate advertisers into a more active community of donors.
  • Identify and cultivate potential growth opportunities from a variety of sources that support significant long-term partnerships.
  • Manage all communications with foundation, corporate and individual investors; ensure that investors understand GreatSchools' strategies, programs, and achievements.
  • Build relationships with current and potential foundation, individual, and corporate investors.
  • Moderate level of travel is expected (20-25%).

Experience and Education:

  • Minimum of 10 years of demonstrated success in the development or related field
  • A bachelor's degree is required and an advanced degree is desirable

Online Advertising Sales Manager

We are looking for a talented Online Advertising Sales Manager to champion the nation's fastest growing web site for parents of K-12 students. This Sales Manager will be responsible for identifying, closing and managing advertising partners. Additionally, this person will work with the online advertising sales team to develop unique ad vehicles and programs that build value for our partners.

GreatSchools has established a successful online advertising business with a range of industry leading partners including Chevy, Sylvan, ING Direct, Target, Kellogg's, K-12 and many others. We are seeking a self-directed and highly motivated individual who can help drive and support our continued growth. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in advertising & marketing with exceptional selling skills, and a proven record of meeting and exceeding sales targets.

This position reports to the Managing Director, Media. We currently have two positions available, one in New York, NY and the other in Chicago, IL.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Identify and initiate contact with advertising prospects through cold calls, in-person presentations and/or leveraging of existing contact lists
  • Assess customer needs, develop effective sales proposals, negotiate deals, ensure successful delivery of advertising campaigns
  • Regular travel within territory

Sales Marketing Manager

In this role, you will be responsible for providing pre- and post-sales support to our online advertising team. This is a key position within our organization, perfect for a smart, rising star who is passionate about online advertising, emerging technology, and finding scalable solutions for revenue generating advertising partners. This role will serve as the primary liaison between Marketing and Sales. The Sales Marketing Manager reports directly to the Director of Online Marketing.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Pre-Sales/RFP Response:
    • Work closely with other key internal teams (Sales, Sales Planning, Campaign Manager, Editorial, Design, Business Insights, Ad Ops, etc.) to brainstorm specific marketing programs and solutions for key advertising partners
    • Develop smart, unique, 'custom', yet vetted and executable marketing programs for large strategic advertising partners quickly
    • Generate high-quality, client facing presentations (PowerPoint, In Design, etc.) that bring the marketing program to life as well as generate accompanying documentation describing details of marketing program for internal audiences, with only short turn-around time (i.e. 24-48 hours)
    • Ability to quickly and effectively negotiate internal teams to get conceptual 'buy off' on non-existing elements of a potential marketing partnership
  • Sales Marketing Collateral:
    • Responsible for generating and maintaining all outward sales marketing materials including overall general sales presentation, individual advertising product opportunities, audience profiles, competitive information, case studies, etc.
    • Create 'custom' slides for RFP's as needed, that are vetted and approved internally prior to being submitted to external advertising partners
    • Create strategy for developing scalable sales materials to support sales needs
    • Work with Design to create consistent, strong marketing materials that speak to the needs of our advertisers
    • Manage regular outbound email newsletter for advertisers and agencies, communicating latest news from GreatSchools and valuable insights to this audience
  • Research Support:
    • Pull comScore and Omniture data to support individual RFP's and proposals
    • Work with Business Insights team to construct and conduct research studies that specifically support the sales needs, both short term and long term studies, including consumer facing research to understanding our customers from the mindset of the advertisers
  • Product Management/Ad Products:
    • Create and manage ongoing communication plan for ad products; Translate pipeline into sales-ready materials that communicate new opportunities, including key specifications, timing, proposed use-cases and capabilities
    • Research, define, scope, and manage the implementation of any new ad products and/or and media solutions from conception to launch, working cross-functionally with Sales Campaign Manager, Engineering, Product, Design
    • Manage the Marketing Calendar which supports sales programs and initiatives, to ensure that there is transparency and clarity into programs, what's been sold, what needs to be delivered, etc.

Experience/Education/Skills Required:

  • Bachelor's degree required (emphasis in marketing or digital media preferred)
  • Minimum 4 years direct online sales marketing experience working for an advertising-supported website required; experience with a general parenting or education website a plus
  • Proven experience in 'story telling' and bringing concepts to life quickly and effectively via PowerPoint
  • Excellent copy-writing skills, with experience writing for advertisers and agencies in an easy and real voice

Product Manager - Social

We are seeking a results-oriented Product Manager to drive digital media product development, specifically around integrating user-generated content that advances strategic objectives and increases revenue.

The efforts of this new position will be on growing the core GreatSchools.org website, specifically a new and improved online experience through which visitors learn about and navigate through the K-12 school choice process. Project focus areas will include developing user-generated content acquisition tools, social networking integration, and displaying UGC and other qualitative school information.

The Product Manager reports directly to the Director of Product Management. You will be part of a core team of product managers, designers and developers working towards the completion of a broader product enhancement project. You will be instrumental in rapidly rolling out medium-to-large new features and tools projects, and must interface with stakeholders in product marketing, editorial, and technology departments to confirm requirements and project trade-offs. Familiarity with both waterfall and agile development methodologies is highly desirable.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Drive products through the full lifecycle, from concept and development through release and post-launch monitoring, working closely with other departments
  • Draft product requirements (in PRDs or in project tracking software) with input from cross-departmental stakeholders
  • Work with the UX design team to produce wireframes and visual design mocks and/or plan usability testing for product features
  • Gather project estimates from the development team, identifying priorities and trade-offs as needed to keep projects time- and cost-efficient
  • Manage a test and learn process to gauge success, develop project lessons and inform future improvements

Email Production Associate

The Email Production Associate will support the GreatSchools marketing team with the day-to-day production of all consumer-facing emails sent from GreatSchools. This is a part-time position that involves coordinating the email production cycle, as well as coding, testing and tracking emails sent on a regular basis in a deadline-driven environment. There will also be opportunities to bring new email products to life from start to finish with guidance from a seasoned email marketing expert on staff.

Ideal candidates are detail-oriented, exhibit an undying commitment to quality, are efficient and adaptable, and work well with others, including editors, designers, sales reps, engineers, and others.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Plan, implement, test and send a variety of segmented, targeted, and triggered emails from within our email service provider system (ExactTarget).
  • Develop data queries and scripting needed to support dynamic and conditional content in emails.
  • Coordinate and maintain email calendar to meet desired execution dates, maximize the audience reach, and regularly communicate the schedule out to the team.
  • Coordinate email copy and art change requests.
  • Analyze campaign and newsletter performance (open rates, CTRs, unsubscribes, etc.) and provide recommendations to improve email channel performance.
  • Monitor incoming mailboxes to watch for mis-directed opt-outs.
  • Keep up to date on standards, regulations and best practices for email deliverability, including assessing major ESP standards, best practices, SPAM and bounce processing. Document standards and best practices and make recommendations to optimize email strategy and design.
  • Program and test new templates to support new email products.
  • Other duties, as needed, to support marketing campaigns.

Experience/Skills/Education Required:

  • BA/BS in marketing, business or related field preferred
  • Minimum 2 years' work experience executing email and direct response campaigns in a marketing/advertising agency or marketing department
  • Strong knowledge of HTML and CSS required
  • Strong technical skills, including experience using email distribution and reporting applications, understanding of A/B testing, relational databases, writing scripts and database queries (MySQL), HTML and HTML editing tools, basics of Photoshop (resizing/optimizing images)
  • Knowledge of ExactTarget or comparable email marketing solution is required

Manager, Research and Evaluation

We are seeking a senior-level manager to lead research and evaluation at GreatSchools, the nation's leading source of school and education information for parents. You will be a torch-bearer for setting strategic goals and milestones, and creating well-designed experiments to inform progress against goals. You will be a critical team member, providing a social research framework to the challenge of creating national programs that leverage technology to help parents become more effectively involved in their children's education. Initial responsibilities include engaging senior executives and program directors in setting measures of success and target milestones based on GreatSchools' logic model, and conducting baseline measurements. Ongoing responsibilities include managing third-party evaluators, market research, and customer satisfaction and brand measurement to ensure that findings are translated into actionable insights.

As head of research and evaluation efforts, you will report directly to the Vice President of Business Insights, and will manage a Research Analyst (TBH), as well as managing outside evaluation projects (typically 3-5 per year). You will guide product and program cross-functional teams to ensure that our work brings us closer to meeting social impact goals.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Manage evaluation efforts, including determining research objectives, designing and implementing studies, and creating and managing RFP process when appropriate.
  • Design and implement consumer research projects to inform product and marketing strategy, including conducting surveys and user interviews.
  • Reinforce a culture of experimentation by guiding product teams to articulate and measure appropriate goals, and refining internal processes to share lessons learned and inform future development.

Experience/Skills/Education Required:

  • Masters or PhD (preferred) in social sciences, with at least 3-5 years professional program evaluation experience, preferably in K-12 education and/or parental involvement in education

Video Producer/Editor

We are seeking a multi-month contract Video Producer/Editor to work with our Content team on short-form, engaging, videos for parents about different ways of supporting their children's learning at home.

The primary role of the Video Producer/Editor is to create short-form video content for use on the GreatSchools.org web site and other digital properties.

Prior experience creating dynamic low-budget video content that has high quality standards for narrative, music, sound, and look & feel is required.

The Video Producer/Editor must be capable of multitasking, conceptualizing/writing engaging short narrative scripts, collaborating with the Content team, editing, overseeing and planning shoots in the field, and bring journalistic standards to multimedia storytelling.

Responsibilities:

  • Produce short-format, videos for distribution on GreatSchools digital platforms.
  • Work with team to conceptualize and write scripts/script outlines for each video.
  • Coordinate field shoots in schools and other field locations (homes, parks, offices) - including coordinating on-camera talent, locations, and equipment.
  • Execute on field shoots - including lighting, audio, and videography-with some minimal support from the team.
  • Serve as primary editor for each video.
  • Manage video assets.
  • Collaborate well with other editorial team members and groups.

Experience/Skills/Education Required:

  • 5 years of related video production/editing experience
  • Proven experience/concrete examples of creative script writing for short-form video format

QA Engineer

This position focuses on QA for the entire software development lifecycle of web applications; you'll help test our entire site, and work side by side with the engineers. You excel at crafting a meaningful testing plan during the design phase and aggressively isolating quality issues during the testing phase. QA is at the heart of everything we do, and you'll love this position if you are much more than a script following button-pusher. You'll mostly do manual testing, although any experience with automation is a plus.
