GREATSCHOOLS LAUNCHES HOLIDAY CAMPAIGN AIMED AT HELPING
PARENTS TEACH THE VALUE OF GIVING TO THEIR KIDS
Campaign features new partnership with DonorsChoose.org,
enabling parents to fund schools in need
SAN FRANCISCO, CA USA - November 20, 2008 - GreatSchools, the nonprofit that helps parents find the right schools for their children nationwide, today announced the launch of the GreatSchools Holiday Giving campaign.
Beginning today, GreatSchools will help parents use this holiday season as a "teachable moment" for children to learn about the value and importance of giving back to their schools and community. As part of the campaign, GreatSchools will feature a set of tools, valuable information and giving incentives on its Web site (www.greatschools.org), including:
- DonorsChoose.org Partnership -GreatSchools has partnered with DonorsChoose.org to enable parents to easily give to schools in need. On its Web site, GreatSchools will immediately begin featuring school projects in need of funding.
- The Gift of Giving Contest - This contest will encourage community members to share stories about how they have taught their children the value of giving. Winners will receive up to $500 in donations via the DonorsChoose.org giving card.
- Tips and Advice - GreatSchools will feature editorial content from its award-winning team on how to give back to teachers and schools, find volunteer opportunities in their community, and other activities that reinforce giving.
Referencing this campaign, Bill Jackson, former teacher and GreatSchools' Founder and President, highlighted the importance of this "teachable moment" - a point in time for parents to model positive behaviors during the holiday season.
"Teaching children the value of giving is more important than ever," said Jackson. "The challenging economic climate, as well as the revitalized spirit of hope and change that is sweeping the country, make this holiday season the perfect time for parents to engage their children in the spirit of giving back."
More than 35 million people visited GreatSchools in 2007, and it has been a source of inspiration and information for parents for 10 years. The GreatSchools Giving campaign is the latest in a series of initiatives to support GreatSchools' overall mission to inspire and empower parents to participate in their children's development and educational success. Earlier this month, GreatSchools announced a new wave of funding for an initiative to help put kids on a track to college, and also announced the availability of a Preschool Finder on its Web site.
