Search Tips
I'm trying to find just elementary or private schools in my city.

Search for 'elementary schools in San Francisco' (but use the name of your city instead of San Francisco!). Or, search for 'private elementary schools in San Francisco.' The first link of the search results will take you to a list of elementary schools (or private elementary schools) in the city or district that you entered.

I didn't get any results. What's your advice?

Make sure all words are spelled correctly.
Double-check that you've got spaces between all of the words. And remember that sometimes it may be hard to spot your own typo, so you can always try re-typing.

Try different key words.
Sometimes very specific searches won't return matches, but a more general one, or one with fewer key words might. If you're looking for articles or other topical information, think about what other words might be used to describe what you're looking for.

Consider browsing.
To find schools, you can browse all cities or districts in a state. Or, browse all topics or glossary terms.

I got too many results. What to do?

Try more keywords.
Sometimes you can get better results by providing more information. For example, if you're searching for a school that has a very common name, it can be helpful to enter both the school name and the city name.

Try advanced school search.
Advanced search lets you narrow a search for schools based on more criteria from the get-go, giving you more targeted results. Go to advanced search.

I want to know what school is assigned to my address. How do I find out?

Many districts offer maps that show detailed district boundaries and what schools are assigned to what neighborhoods. Call your school district's office to see if a map is available. But keep in mind that in many districts, enrollment is only partly based on location. In these districts, during the open enrollment period, parents can choose from other schools in the district that have space. To find out what schools are closest to your address, use advanced search.
