In 2009-2010 West Virginia used the West Virginia Educational Standards Test 2 (WESTEST) to test students in grades 3 through 8 and 10 in reading/language arts, math and science, and grades 3 through 8 in social studies.
The WESTEST is a standards-based test, which means it measures how well students are mastering specific skills needed to progress through school.
The goal is for all students to score at or above the state standard.
