As a former student, I can only say that this school has only gotten worse through the years. The staff ranges from competent to mediocre in most cases. The administration and staff have demonstrated that their priorities are not student-centered. They take the path of least resistance in anything they do. There is little to no consistency in their curriculum and the school board members could care less about the quality of education the students receive. There is no motivation or incentive. The students dangle on a dangerous precipice because there is no structure or guidance. Today's generation is completely self-serving and this school is a clear example of that.
I am very proud to say that i send my kids to antonito. They are getting a very good education here, and are offered many extracurricualar activities. The band program here is great as well as our sports program. And as for the school board they are working hard to find ways to improve our school .
I have 2 children that attend Antonito High and have not had any problems. They are both doing very well and always have. Who ever made the comment that the school focuses on sports and not the education, your comment is incorrect. A student must have his or her grades up in order to play. Education is a team effort, with the children, teachers and especilly the parents. So, with that said, Antonito is a good school, its what you make of it and what you want out of life.
After viewing the comments left from recent students and parents i have yet to find agreeable. As a proud student of Antonito High School i feel very well educated and well prepared for the future thanks to our teachers that are willing to help a student in any situation at any time. As for our sports every team and individual work extremely hard and represent our school well. The wrestlers are a great example of showing how hard working they are. Having two guys from our school take state is an excellent achievement. As a member of the dance team we also hold a high reputation of placing in the top five for the past couple of years. Which i am extremely proud of!! Thank you, Ryan Martinez
I feel that Antonito High School is an excellent place for learning. The staff is friendly, and the teachers are wonderful. They give help whenever it is needed. For example our school honored a Boetcher Scholar last year, and several regional Science Fair placers, and one that won a trip to Houston, TX for an environmental olympiad. Truly, our dance team, and wrestlers also represent our school well by being state placers consistently. At this point our basketball team is making us very proud also. Thank You Bryan Garcia
Here at Antonito High School this is the place to start your child's schooling. This school offers many academic awards for everyone, brown, white, or colored. It also has many extra-curricular activities for students. Antonito has a dance team that has is awsome. They are by far the best dance team in the valley. They took second place in state for two years straight. Also the wrestling program is outstanding. These kids work hard every day to represent Antonito in state. Another thing the basketball team has a lot of talent. If they get it together, they will be a state qualifying team. Truly, this school may be small, but the teachers there care and make sure you are on task. The school offers academics and athletics, and both are important to everyone. Thank your for reading this. Sincerely, Stefan Armenta/ freshman
parents need to be more involved and the school needs more discipline. there is more emphasis on sports than academics.
This school needs to be closed! There has only been a handful (literally) of good teachers/principals to work there since the 70's! Yes there are the occasional bright stars that shine but they shine with no credit, what so ever, to the school system. The academic, sports, & any other extracurricular activities are dreadfully put together. I'll give them an 'E' for effort and that is IT! Our younger generation deserves a more advanced learning establishment than Antonito Jr./Sr. High School. A lot of raw talent slips through our finger tips each and every day this school stays open. Send your children to La Jara or, even better yet, Alamosa. Antonito Jr./Sr. High School typically produces victimized adults due to the lack of proper education, lack of parental involvement, and teacher/principal supervision. A waste of the community s taxes! Thank You.
I rate this school a 4 because I have had four of my children go here and they have taken advantage of all of the opportunities that this school has to offer. They have taken all the extracurriculars from music, sports, knowledge bowl, FBLA, academic decathlon and college classes their junior and senior year. They all managed good to excellent scores on their ACTs and have successfully obtained post secondary degrees in music, mathematics, engineering, and journalism. The best thing about Antonito is that it is a community school that does not take away the dignity of the student and enhances the ethnic quality that can contribute positively to this country without the student growing into a victimized adult.
