School Official Point of View

Thank you Dalton Elementary volunteers. Dalton Elementary has a great volunteer force of parents, grandparents, great-grandparents, teachers and community members who work in our media center, crosswalk and lunch duty and work with students one on one or in small groups. Volunteers work "in-home" to help teachers with sorting, organizing and trimming projects. Dalton volunteers have time clocked the equivalent time of over 2 full time people for one year. We have one full time and two part-time community liaison corps persons who coordinate our volunteer workforce. They provide support to the Dalton Community with information to help parents and coordinate our Scholastic nights. We want to give a "shout out" to everyone. We have a fantastic PTSO group who supports our students with great events (Veteran's Day) and supports teachers during conferences and supports teachers with little things that make teachers feel appreciated. Thank you to the teachers who volunteer their time to provide Art Club, Choir Club, Bokowa, Running, Homework and Science Clubs as well as our Step Movement Team. Thank you to the teachers who sponsor our NAESP Student Council and our school safety group. Dalton Elementary is a great place to work, volunteer and attend school.

Teacher effectiveness: Disagree

Based on our experience last school year I would say this school hires teachers that are burned out and ineffective.

Amount of homework: Disagree

After my son was moved from one classroom to another he was not given any homework.

My son was not treated fairly on multiple occasions. If the administration does not treat children fairly you can't expect children to learn what fair is.

Last year my son had a teacher that was swearing at him and other students in the classroom. I did report this to the principal but nothing appeared to be done about it. My son had several teachers that were sub standard and this was just one case and point.

SCHOOL LEADER
All teachers at Dalton Elementary are highly qualified. Approximately 90% of our teachers have Master's degrees or are working towards a Master's Degree. Dalton has a Teacher Partner who supports teachers with collaborative or individual coaching based on teacher needs or the professional learning that takes place on a weekly basis. Teachers meet weekly to discuss data, professional learning to support our Major Improvement strategies, student learning objectives and professional growth goals. Teachers meet quarterly with the administration to share student growth and discuss the supports they need. Teachers also meet mid-year with administration to discuss their personal growth goals, student growth and the teacher effectiveness rubric. We also have an English Language Acquisition teacher leader who works with teachers who have 2nd language learners, We have a Read Plan teacher who works with students on Read Plans and plans with the classroom teachers. We have 4 retired intervention teachers who work with students in Reading.

School expectations are that students read no less than 15 minutes every night. Depending on student age levels they can read with an adult or family member. Homework is grade appropriate.

Dalton is a wonderful, community based school that offers a wide variety of oppporunities for its students and their families. The teachers are committed to providing the very best education they can for their students and the administration is responsive to parents and addresses any and all concerns immediately. Kids Corner is a great place for kids to hang out after school if childcare is needed and there are many different ways for students to become involved and develop their leadership skills. I am so lucky that my child had the opportunity to attend Dalton!

The teachers here are very knowledgable and caring. They work hard to support students and create positive relationships with parents. My child is well-prepared both socially and academically to attend middle school due to the strong foundation Dalton provides.
