This school has excellent teachers and challenging academic programs. It has gone through considerable challenges the last few years.

There is no doubt there have been problems in administration the last couple years, but what a school requires to be truly great, is a passionate commitment to the education, environment and community they are creating, and that is what I feel when I walk into Mountain Shadows. The future is always uncertain isn't it, and as much as we want any school to have a perfect resume, every resilient institution has its ups and downs. The bottom line is, are the teachers caring and conscientious, are the students happy and successful, do they look forward to learning? So far, my answer is yes.

We just moved to Boulder last year and our 3rd grade son attends Mountain Shadows Montessori. He has been involved with various Montessori schools in the past but it wasn't until we started at Mountain Shadows that we learned what a true Montessori school is supposed to be like. Our son has always had a natural curiosity and the teachers at Mountain Shadows have done an amazing job of bringing that curiosity out and helping him learn how to harness that energy and convert it into academic pursuits! Another thing we have been extremely pleased with is the Mountain Shadows parent community and the sense of family that pervades the school. For anyone in the Boulder area we highly recommend Mountain Shadows for your elementary age children (and primary) If you are not in the Boulder area we would suggest you look for a Montessori School like Mountain Shadows that is AMI certified.

This is our 7th year at Mountain Shadows; both of our children have attended Mountain Shadows since they were 3 years old. Our children are excited about going to school everyday because they are respected, love learning and are engaged in purposeful and meaningful activities. We love this school.

Our daughter goes to Mountain Shadows Montessori and now our son will start in the new toddler program. The teachers are amazing - and the campus is beautiful. We couldn't be happier with our experience!

My grandchildren both go to this school. It is wonderful! They love their teachers, and learn so much. I am more than glad to pay their tuition so that they can attend Mouontain Shadows Montessori School.

Mountain Shadows is the perfect school. We have 2 little ones there now. I am confident that my children are receiving the best education they could possibly get. I recommend this school to everyone. You will be amazed at the quality of people and education they provide.

Our children have done very well at Mtn. Shadows. They are very different from one another in their interests and strengths and the environment in the classroom gives them the opportunity to learn at their own pace, whether it be fast or slow. The teachers are remarkable and are very accessible and are quick to address any concerns or issues. This is a great environment to nurture independence, confidence and creativity from Primary all the way through Upper Elementary.

Both of my children are thriving at Mountain Shadows. My oldest has been there for 4 years and my youngest for 2 years. It is a nice feeling when your children look forward to going to school each day. It is obvious to me that the teachers and administration take their jobs to heart and are passionate about teaching the Montessori method. Stephanie Velasco

Our nephew did not enjoy the school at all, and after finding out why several parents pulled their kids out of the school after a yr or even less, our concern is validated that this is simply not a positive and safe environment for small children - rigid and cold and they seem to attribute it to AMI principles. I am and have known several montessori teachers who absolutely say otherwise.

We had an awful experience with the teachers and the administration. can't say much about the higher classes, but the toddler class experience was cold and negative. Our kids did not enjoy the experience, the teachers are inaccessible and the administration simply did not want to work with you to help the communication.

This school is amazing! It is a perfect size school with caring teachers and well behaved students. The cirriculum is very advanced but the work is very easy to learn. There is little homework given, and each student gets one-on-one attention whenever they need it. Evryone learns at their own level which is great! The way the students participate in classroom chores such as dusting, vacuuming, and cleaning and setting their places for lunch, teaches responsibility, and how to help out around the house, without feeling like a punishment. The school offers many wonderful programs and activities. There is just enough parent involvement, and lots of fun and educational field trips. Evrything about this school makes it fun to learn. Mountain Shadows Montessori School is outstanding!

Mountain Shadows Montessori School provided my son with an excellent opportunity for growth and learning. He started in their preschool program, where he learned basic reading, writing and math at age four. Most facinating to him was a lesson by his teacher on China, where he saw pictures of the country and learned about their culture. The high quality of their education continued into the elementary program, where he has continued his love of learning. I believe that his new favorite activity, reading, was inspired by their unique and rigerous program. Meanwhile, I felt the school was of great quality because of the personalized approach they have towards each student, even in the preschool ages. Lastly, as a parent I felt secure with the school because they are AMI certified - the highest and most reputable form of montessori certification available. I believe they are the only AMI certified school in Colorado.

I have a current student and an alum. I am very impressed with how the Mountain Shadows environment encourages the love to learn in my children and teaches them a general respect for the world around them.

My son is in his fourth year at mountain shadows and we could not be more pleased. He has received a customized education, optimizing his learning. He loves to learn and loves going to school. What more could a parent desire? The ami commitment of this school ensures pure montessori methodology is used. My son's teachers have shown true commitment to and interest in his learning and care for his total development. He has done division in kindergarten and science experiments in first grade. There is tremendous growth and learning going on in these classrooms and i highly recommend it.

About these ratings

The Community Rating is the school’s average rating from its community members (e.g., parents, students, and school staff). The highest possible rating is five stars; the lowest is one star.

We currently do not have any test score information for this school. Unlike public schools, private schools are not always required to report data about their schools or not required to take the same tests as public schools. Many private schools take different standardized tests; however, that information is often made available only to families of enrolled students. We strive to acquire additional private school data whenever available.
