We came to Bixby after K and 1st in a public school. We couldn't be happier with our decision. The teachers are excellent. The class sizes are small and cater to each child's needs. The Bixby culture is all inclusive. All kids are friends. No cliques like the public school we had our son in. It's a very nurturing creative environment, we LOVE it.

After a very unsuccessful 1st and 2nd grade in public school, my daughter moved to Bixby. It was a joy to see her thriving, even after just one week. It's fundamentally changed how my daughter thinks about school and in one year she made up a lot of lost ground. She can't get lost in the mix. Small class sizes allow teachers to work with kids at a variety of levels and get to know what works and what makes the kids tick. Lower yard and swimming, along with moving between rooms throughout the day means she gets a great outlet for burning excess energy. The Director and the lead teacher were open, listened to my thought about my child, and worked together to brainstorm on what the next steps were. I can't wait to see what my daughter achieves over the couple of years. She always loved learning....now she has a place she loves to learn at.

Our son attended Bixby School from K until 4th and had to leave because of moving to another state. He loved every day he was at this school especially the backyard and swimming classes. The school has a curriculum that enriches the creativity in each child. We had our hesitations from time to time because of the no homework, no test policy but it turns out that our son was so well prepared by Bixby that he had no challenge to adjust to a school with an academically challenging curriculum with tests and homework when we moved out of Colorado. He understands each and every subject easily no matter how difficult the subject is and as parents we think this has strong ties with his background he gained at Bixby. In short, Bixby does not only teach subjects to your child, but they leave a permanent effect on your child to crave lifelong learning. On the social side, we found Bixby experience very valuable as they instill values in each child to become responsible, respectfull and sensible. We highly recommend this Bixby School.

Bixby has been excellent for our child in every way. Like many students, he was at another private school for pk/k, and then in our local school for first grade. That was OK, but in second grade things started to fall apart. Fortunately Bixby had a seat available, and we were able to transfer mid-year. We were expecting some transition issues, both to a new school and away from the old, but saw neither. He was accepted in to the new class seamlessly, and he never did ask about his old school outside of an occasional observation about how much he likes his new one. The glaringly positive aspects of Bixby are the dedicated schedules and classrooms for each subject, the motivated/enthusiastic/creative teachers, and small class sizes with engaged students. The curriculum and focus are exactly where we want them, on the children now and for the future.

There is nothing about Bixby that has disappointed. The administration is open-minded, creative and very thoughtful about every decision and how it fits in with fostering the development of any child into a creative, self-starting, wise and courageous participant in the world. They don't push - they create many diverse opportunities to attract and engage. They low teacher/student ratio and the enthusiastic, kind and cheerful staff make Bixby a wonderful and friendly environment that my child looks forward to being a part of every day. They give children room to play and they are very attentive toward the respect shown between peers. You don't see peers playing exclusionary games, bullying, pestering, etc., that you see in most other schools. It's a delightfully safe environment for a child to experiment and discover who they want to be. My child loves Bixby. I wish I could have gone there when I was a kid!

Awesome school for quiet, deliberate, and thoughtful students. My sensitive child LOVES this school. We are so glad to have him enrolled at Bixby - our third school we've tried for him. The class sizes are so small - around six students to one teacher. A perfect environment to draw out a hesitant child. Plus, hot lunch and swimming lessons in their onsite pool are included in the tuition. Our experience at Bixby has exceeded all our expectations. Don't just tour the school - ask to sit in on a couple of classes - you will be sold too.

We enrolled our son after a Montessori school and a year of public school. While not a special needs child, our son thrives in small groups and needs engagement. We have found an amazingly dedicated staff that brings learning to life for our son. From the amazingly small class sizes and the focus on critical thinking from first principles to the emphasis on "play" instead of homework, we believe we have found a school that sets our son up with the skills and creative environment that will serve him well throughout his life.

We chose Bixby after several disappointing experiences at other schools. Our son is very intelligent, but the busy, "one size fits all" atmosphere of other schools was difficult for him. The staff and teachers at Bixby are amazing, sensitive and highly skilled. In a short time, I felt they could intuit my son's needs as well as I can. Bixby is a safe and fun place for him, and for the first time, he can't wait to go to school everyday. We are beyond impressed.

We had a terrible experience with this school. We found it militaristic despite its claim to foster critical thinking skills. A very punitive, rigid environment. Our child completely fell apart there. Teachers were cruel and didn't seem to like children or be sensitive to needs to the point that it really frightened us for our child's well being. He completely returned to himself after leaving there. Would not recommend to anyone. Yes, our child loved the pool. He said "I miss the pool, even though the teachers were evil." Out of the mouths of babes.

This school is great for the highly gifted. They have responded rapidly and proactively (without requests by me) to keep my son challenged and help him grow to be well rounded.

I sent my three children to Bixby starting in preschool (I now have one graduate and two in the elementary) and they all had a great experience. I loved the way that the preschool focused on teaching them a love for learning and I have seen this develop in them throughout their experience there and beyond. My eighth grader now attends an academically rigorous charter school, and he is at the top of his class. Every child develops at a different pace, and I really love the way that Bixby works with children to teach them how to learn in a way that makes sense to them and that will stick with them throughout their lives.

My husband and I enrolled our son in the Preschool program. At the time, it seemed to be a great fit for us, caring and involved teachers were at hand everyday to welcome our little one. By the time of our sons' last year, we realized that the Preschool program did not introduce enough literacy activities to the children, and talking to other parents, we all realized our children were lagging behind compared to other programs. How could this be? Our children were not challenged or even pushed to trace letters or do number recognition! Very disappointing experience, we paid quite a price tag and the preschool didn't deliver literacy skills...I found myself spending all summer working with my son at home just for him to catch up...and, I am not the only parent to think this. So, we are doing public school now and are happy about it.

I transferred my daughter to Bixby from a public school in second grade. I could not be happier! The staff and teachers at Bixby recognizes and endorses the individual characteristics & personalities of each child. They understand each child learns differently. They work with each child as unique individuals rather than insisting the child adapt to a stereotyped mold. They instill responsibility and respect towards others. My daughter has academically advanced so much in just the one year she has attended Bixby; it's sincerely amazing. Now she 'Loves' to learn! She comes home and voluntarily picks up a book and reads! After school she will reconstruct a science project done earlier in the day - just because it was 'fun'. Parents are highly involved. Bixby offers the same classes as public schools - plus swim class twice a week. Yes, it cost some money - it's the best investment I'll make.

About these ratings

The Community Rating is the school’s average rating from its community members (e.g., parents, students, and school staff). The highest possible rating is five stars; the lowest is one star.

We currently do not have any test score information for this school. Unlike public schools, private schools are not always required to report data about their schools or not required to take the same tests as public schools. Many private schools take different standardized tests; however, that information is often made available only to families of enrolled students. We strive to acquire additional private school data whenever available.
