Woodlands Academy is a family-oriented and very accepting environment for children. I wish there had been a school like this one when I was in school! The high academic standard pairs with the experiential approach to learning, resulting in fun learning! Amazing!

Woodlands Academy is an academically rigorous school with a curriculum that combines traditional academics with hands on learning. The school is full of master teachers whose passion for the subjects that they teach is infectious. The extremely small classes allow for the curriculum to be customized for each child so that they get exactly what they need. My son has seven kids in his class and they go to five different math classes. This is not a one size fits all approach to education. The small size of the school creates a family like environment where everyone works together. The end result is kids that are motivated, smart, well-rounded, grounded, ethical people who are well on their way to becoming the kind of adults who make a positive impact in the world.

Cannot RAVE enough about this school. After moving here from out of state, we were frustrated with our inability to "get in" to a quality magnet school in our area due to ridiculously long waitlists. After two years of driving our children 50 miles a day (round trip) so that they could attend a school with a good track record, we finally found Woodlands. This school is focused on providing a rich, hands-on STEM curriculum. The teachers are extremely well qualified, and the students enjoy class sizes of no more than 8! My children now adore school, no longer complain every morning, and I now have to drag them out of the school every afternoon. They are involved in Journalism, Chess, Karate, Scrapbooking, Lego League.... I'm not kidding... the list goes on and on. Bottom line: YOU MUST (at least) VISIT THIS SCHOOL. The parental and teacher involvement is stunning... and it's Castle Rock's best secret. Can't say enough wonderful things about it.

My daughter is succeeding - FINALLY! We love the personal touch that this school offers - with an individual to small group learning style for tailoring of curriculum, caring teachers, challenging programs, and SMALL Classes! Our daughter needs the small classes and personal attention that this school can offer. We went through two public schools (both are great schools) but the classes overwhelmed and overstimulated our daughter. We've never seen a report card with an "A" on it and she got multiple. If you need that extra help with your child's learning whether it be for kids with learning difficulties (like ours) or those that need that extra academic challenge, this is definitely the place to go. Our family couldn't be happier! Thank You!

Through a 2 year process we tried 3 different Charter Schools within the Douglas County School District...None of them were a good fit for our son or had the education excellence that we were hoping for in a school. We found all that we could hope for and more in Woodlands Academy...Our Son is thriving and the curriculum is challenging him in ways that we had not seen at the other schools. As a family, we have decided to now send our next child to this amazing school in the fall. - Kathy K. (Parent of a 3rd grader at Woodlands Academy)

My son entered this school in the 3rd grade, and with small classroom size and the advanced curriculum offered, has quickly advanced to the 5th grade level in most of his course work in less than a year. He is exposed not only to advanced classroom work, but extra curricular activities that are not available in public schools, and interacts daily with older children. The teachers foster a learning environment that focuses not only on academics, but real life applications. The kids who attend Woodlands are exceptionally well rounded, well mannered, and prepared for honors classes in high school when they graduate. Woodlands is an exceptional academic and learning environment that every child should have the opportunity to experience.

All three of our children have attended Woodlands, one began in 4th grade and is now finishing up a great first year at Regis, the other will start at Regis, girls division next year. What an incredible environment - each received instruction that was tuned to their strengths and delivered in a way that was both supporting and challenging. Beyond education, being at Woodlands is about being part of a community - the fall and spring trips, the intense theatrical productions, the overnights, all led to a bonding of kids, teachers and parents. Lastly, the sharing of space of kids from the early grades through 8th grade creates an environment where kids support kids, it's just good and healthy and helps to build character and maturity. We couldn't be happier or more proud of how well our children are doing and we given substantial credit to Woodlands, the commitment to the kids by the teachers is complete, we consider ourselves fortunate and blessed to have had two matriculate through Woodlands and to know our third will have this same wonderful experinece.

The small classrooms and approachable teachers/staff make this school unlike any other. That's not to mention that the instruction is done at a differentiated and integrated level. We have exhausted the available programs and have terminated at this school where the community of students are not caught up by your typical "suburban" private school atmosphere. Our child is challenged and we are able to continue the debate with her teachers to keep her path challenged and exciting. A true hidden gem in Castle Rock.

My son was having learning issues and he was very uncomfortable being in a large school setting. Woodlands Academy took all of the issues that would have been ignored at a larger school, and embraced his needs. Thank you so much for caring about my son. He's now excelling and will have the tools for next year to enter high school. I can't thank you enough! Diana Kelley

Having a Middle School child can be challenging on its own, but having the right school eases that process. Not only was our daughter enriched beyond our wildest dream with the curriculum but her self esteem and self worth were evident as she moved through her years at Woodlands. She is leaving Woodlands with an exemplary education and a firm understanding herself in all environments. Bravo Woodlands!!

Our son loves going to school every day! When researching options for first grade, we considered many other possibilities, including public, charter, magnet and even other private schools. Ultimately, we decided to give Woodlands Academy a try because we were so impressed with the teachers, their program and current students. We have NOT regretted our decision. Our son is thriving. He is always challenged and never bored. Each student's curriculum is designed around their individual abilities. Their experiential learning programs are outstanding. Don't let the storefront deter you. What matters are the teachers, student body and involved parents. Community, responsibility, respect for self and each other is instilled in each student, valuable skills they will carry with them for the rest of their lives.

I currently have two students at Woodlands (2nd and 7th Grade) and my oldest graduated from Woodlands last year and is now enrolled at Regis Jesuit High School. This school is very special. Not only are the academics top-notch, the heart and caring of the teachers is extraordinary and flows through to the student body. The teacher's willingness and ability to tailor programs to meet the abilities and needs of the students also sets this school apart from others we have experienced. The students here are really engaged in learning and in school activities and develop a love of learning which will carry through the rest of their lives. Thank you Woodlands for all you do!

I've had 2 kids at Woodlands and it was one of my best decisions of my life. They developed a love of learning, they felt free to talk to teachers which has really helped them in high school, developed good study habits, had a lot of fun, and raised their academic levels substantially. Very small class sizes and hands on learning is the key. Don't be fooled by the storefront, inside is a great school.

Woodlands has provided a great education to both of my girls, both academically and socially. The challenging academics, are balanced by a warm family-like atmosphere. Kids are happy here! They hardly realize that they are learning at such a great rate. My older daughter's transition to high school (we choose a local public school) was easy - she was ahead in many classes and she has made good friends while staying clear of the 'crazy teens'. My younger daughter loves Latin and all of the hands on, creative projects and individualized focus. Truly a Great School!

Woodlands academy is truly a 'diamond in the rough' in my opinion! my daughter started at woodlands half way through her 5th grade year. She felt extremely unchallenged at the charter school that she attended. She has blossomed into a dedicated and self motivated student! the teachers are so incredibly nuturing yet at the same time academically challenge the students. There is a great amount of experiential learning which my daughter loves. The school offers a two day camping trip at the beginning of the school year. All families of students are invited to attend. I have had so much fun and have learned so much about colorado history going on these trips with my daughter! a great way to meet other families at the school as well. I would highly reccomend this school to any student!!!

Excellent small school with very individual focused curriculum. Students come first, and the experiential learning model combined with the Core materials make it such a great school for our two boys.

Woodlands Academy is clearly the best choice for our family. My daughter now loves to learn, her study habits have been impressive, and her grades have reflected this. She and I were so worried that she would be literally and figuratively lost in the huge middle school environment. The small class sizes and extra teacher attention have made a dramatic change in my daughter's attitude, performance, and social skills. I am confident that Woodlands Academy will well prepare her for the academic and social challenges she will face in high school and beyond. I'll be sending my other daughter to Woodlands Academy for middle school, and she can't wait to go.

Woodlands Academy teaches kids the way they are meant to be taught: individually. They teach to the children and not to some test. My kids are thriving at Woodlands Academy and I am truly stunned by the academic, social and confidence improvements I have seen in them.

About these ratings

The Community Rating is the school’s average rating from its community members (e.g., parents, students, and school staff). The highest possible rating is five stars; the lowest is one star.

We currently do not have any test score information for this school. Unlike public schools, private schools are not always required to report data about their schools or not required to take the same tests as public schools. Many private schools take different standardized tests; however, that information is often made available only to families of enrolled students. We strive to acquire additional private school data whenever available.
