I have been a teacher since 1992. If you are in a position to choose - your local, neighborhood school is your BEST choice! They are always held to MUCH HIGHER standards than a private school or public charter school. (It is too bad that all educational institutions don't have to follow the same set of rules.) The school offers Spanish, PE, Music, Art, Technology (Media) to all students!! Plus many other extra-curricular activities before & after school such as; Student Council, Yearbook, Green Team (recycling club), Choir, Book Club, Running Club, Math Club, Art Club, Drama Club, etc. I love this school and so do my children!! I am confident that these kids will be more than prepared for a world market.
My three kids have been at Rock Ridge Elementary for two years now, and they love it! We came from Clear Sky Elementary in the Meadows, and Rock Ridge outweighs them in all aspects (teachers, office staff, and curriculum) in my opinion. We have never had an issue with anything at Rock Ridge. I know not all experiences will be the same, but to us they ROCK!!
All 3 of our children attend this school and have always experienced the best teachers who really care! Politics aside I know my children and learning at their fullest capabilities and are SAFE while doing so.
Reading the reviews I wonder if anyone thinks that a lot of the problems stem from the district itself putting more emphasis on charter schools and less on long established local schools? I almost changed schools and am glad I didn't. I haven't had a bad teacher yet and the new prinicpal is doing a great job with what she started out with. My main complaint is parent involvment but I'm being optimistic that will improve as the school partners with FORR for better communication of needs and volunteer opprotunities. I'm glad my kids can ride their bikes to school, see their friends at the park, even their teachers at the store. There is nothing bad to say about the school except it needs investment and that really comes from administration there is only so much a school can do if the board doesn't do much to help. I firmly believe my children have learned what they need to but more than that learned to be a great citizens and compassionate leaders with a larger understanding of their world.
We have been attending Rock Ridge for two years now and other than a few disagreements with teachers this school "Rocks" The front desk is friendly and through the staff is always helpful the new principle is great. They have a special needs program that is truly something you dont see every day, the teachers truly look at the individual and how he needs to be taught, I dont know how thye do it but I have no complaints. As far as regular classes, my daughter has been doing really well, she is learning quickly and talks highly of her teachers, she had some issues with kids bullying her and the staff took immediate care of it. Im not sure why this school is a 5, we have been to schools that are an 8/9 that we would never go back to. Keep up the good work.
No school Is perfect in every way, and every school has things they can improve upon. I have had my children in two different schools in the Caste Rock area, and I think RRE is great. The principal is approachable and responsive, the special ed team led by Mrs G is beyond great, and every teacher we have had the pleasure of working with has been wonderful. Have we encountered bumps in the road - of course! But staff is willing to listen and problem solve. As for testing - if you are only going to look at test scores, you might wonder why the scores are not higher at RRE. So much goes into that...not all kids test well, and these tests do not test all that is important about a school. I graduated from college and graduate school with honors - and I did average on SATs and my GRE. As a parent, if you play an active role in your child's education, then your child will succeed. RRE offers what is actually important - caring staff, an atmosphere of high expectations mixed in with a great dose of encouragement, and a commitment to working with parents. I do not hesitate at all in recommending RRE.
I really am not sure how anyone can leave great reviews about this school unless they settle for sub standard education for their kids. Go review testing scores of RRE against other Douglas County or Colorado schools. RRE is at the bottom of the pack. Why is that? Does that not matter? If testing scores do not matter, why does RRE spend weeks upon weeks making sure kids can take the tests. Something is very wrong to have such low testing scores year after year. Do parents just not care? Does nobody do research on the level of education being given at this school? Next, I too have heard from other parents and their kids that the Spanish Teacher is mean and yells at kids. Someone below said that new programs re coming to RRE. Really? What new programs? Why are parents not informed of this? We are really really really unhappy with the quality of RRE but have no choice at the moment, as the higher standard charter schools are full with long waiting lists.
RRE is a great school with new leadership. I am proud to send my kids to RRE. They are changing the culture created from past administration. Teachers and parents are committed to the students. RRE is an IB neighborhood school that has a strong sense of community. The school is dedicated to serving students' emotional, physical, social, and academic needs. I would definitely recommend RRE to anyone.
My family moved to the Founders village area in March 2013 and right away we had a bad experience with one of the 1st grade teachers. We had come from an elementary school that was rated number 5 in the nation for best elementary schools, so we had very high expectations and none of them were meet! The new principle and ladies in the front office are great but thats about it. The school is always dirty, the parking and dropping off is horrible and dangerous if you ask me. We are doing everything we can to not have to go back to Rock Ridge next year.
I had 3 kids go thru this school and believe its one of the best in the state. the teachers and student body was great during our time there. Are first kid started in 1996 and the last one finish 2012. First is off to college the 2nd is an top student in high school. My point is this a great place to send your kids and have a good relations with the teachers.
I went to RRE for 5 years and only have good things to say about it. The teachers are always there to help with personal problems and school problems. RRE is always trying to stop bulling, when I went there they put up posters and did all kinds of stuff trying to stop bullys. There principal left last year and with a new princpal they are still trying to figure out a few things. Send your kids to this school! They will have so much fun! Now that I am in middle school, I am in advanced classes because the teachers they to push you to be the best you can be.
I think the negative reviews on this school are greatly exaggerated. Yes, the communication of the school and teachers could be improved (lots of emails and last minute requests from teachers). However, this is a school where the arts and PE are still available. Spanish is offered for 3rd grade and up. They still take field trips and offer Outdoor Ed. These are all things that better schools have decided to cut. My daughter is now in middle school and is thriving academically. She scored above grade level in reading and math and at grade level for writing. I look forward to sending my 4 year old next year. And there is a new principle, the old one retired at the end of the 2011-2012 school year. Education and academics is very important in our home, we would not send our children to a sub-par school.
I am a parent of Rock Ridge and floored by the negative comments regarding the school, and it's leaders!! Rock Ridge is an amazing school with an even more amazing staff... My son has received an outstanding education thus far and the school in it's entirety is 100% GREAT!!! Hats off to the Rock Ridge team for your commitment to our children and for all that you do for them. I feel it is my familys pleasure to be a part of the Rock Ridge community.
My children have received excellent schooling here at Rock Ridge. They have been given an outstanding education thus far and have exceeded my expectations in every way.
Rock Ridge is not a good school at all. The principal is really hard to deal with and so are the teachers and the office staff. They have a lot of bullying going on at that school. The principal and teachers do nothing about it. I would never recommend this school to anyone! This is a Very Awful school!
RRE IS A TERRIBLE SCHOOL WITH TERRIBLE LEADERSHIP. The teachers are awful they don't communicate well with the parents and ignore the bullying that is really going on. The principal is extremely hard to deal with... The principal also ignores the bullying! This is a very disappointing school and I would NEVER recommend this school to anyone!
I have a first grader and a pre-schooler who love RRE. The teachers we have had (PreK, Kindie and 1st) have been amazing. I feel like their teachers truly care about their education and truly care for my children! I am absolutely amazed at how much my children have learned! RRE also seems to be a school with very little bullying (if any, I have feet to hear of any). The students learn to help and trust each other even from different grade levels by having older "buddies" who they grow to care about and trust! Parent involvement in the school is phenomenal! Any time I have had a question, comment or concern, I am always able to speak to whom i need and everything is addressed right away! I would recommend Rock Ridge to anyone!
Major lack of communication, slow on stopping the bullying....and not learning enough...3 major parental concerns.....don't have much to top that...try homeschooling or cyber schooling...
We opened enrolled our son and it was the best choice we made. I have never seen a staff so dedicated to its students. The administration has addressed all our concerns and the teachers have helped move my son forward in his education and self esteem. The staff I have had contact with demonstrate many of the IB (primary years) learner profiles as well as the areas of interaction that make learning attainable. I read something about the FORR group spending money on silly activities rather than on good teachers. To be honest, that build community and a sense of responsibility. My family has benefited from all these activities. My son now sees his school as a place to learn but also how socialize and resolve conflict. Also, the parents involved do not make decisions on who RRE hires. That is up to the hiring committee. I work full time, like many parents and I have had many opportunities to get involved in school. To you that are unhappy, I hope you find a school that best fits your needs. That is extremely important. Good luck to you!
I am glad I found the postings below. I now know that I am not alone in my experience with Rock Ridge Elementary. I do not want to type out all the problems we have had---and there have been MANY and in just one year. Just know, with the staff and leadership at this school, what they say to you with a smile is not in line with the actions they perform, to include treatment of students. They just do not have the time or the patience for your child if there are learning or behavior issues. My child is not happy. I am not happy. The school has been a huge disappointment---we will not be returning for another year. Be careful in your dealings with this school...
