Arapahoe is an AMAZING school. I graduated in 2007 and was so prepared for college that I didn't have to worry about the difficulty of the classes because I had been taking college level courses for the last 2 years of high school. I loved being at Arapahoe. All of the teachers were caring and willing to help in any way possible. The open campus and off hours were nice because it showed that the staff trusted the students. Ron Booth was an amazing Principal, he has his flaws, but genuinely cares for the students. How many people can say that the principal would walk the halls and know all of the students names? I can. Arapahoe had about 2500 students and Booth knew each one. Thats impressive. You are responsible for yourself at Arapahoe and that is great for young people to have. I have nothing but good things to say about the school. The sport teams are competitive every year and are open to everyone. I was a 3 sport athlete and still maintained a 3.35 GPA. Sports are important at Arapahoe, but we are constantly reminded that we are STUDENT-athletes, and if school is lacking then you will not play. Lacrosse, Wrestling, and cross country are all excellent and I had a great time.
As a parent of three children who have graduated or will graduate from this school, I believe Arapahoe successfully meets the academic needs of its students. For whatever reason, one of my children was not interested in doing his best in high school. The teachers and counselors did their best to help him in every way possible while at the same time holding him responsible. There are many volunteer opportunities for those parents who want to be involved in the school community. I have found teachers, counselors and administration open to parental input.
With any educational environment, you will find both positive and negative. My daughter attended Arapahoe HS, after transfering from an overseas school with an IB curriculum. We found that she was challenged with AP courses, and that she was encouraged to be self-sufficient and self-motivating - qualities that students need to be successful in college. This is definitely a HS that prepares its graduates for continuing education. There were many phenomenal programs to get involved in...especially the Cross Country Team. The one year she participated, there were over 180 runners on the team, and they had a blast. They love and encourage parent involvement.
I totally agree with the review posted on March 25, 2010 and would add that the students that aren't succeeding fall through the cracks as well. It doesn't appear that any of the teachers or the administration provide any follow through for those that really need it but tend to concentrate on the AP and very successful/involved students. I'm very disappointed in this high school from a personal perspective.
This school is more hype than delivery. The principal offers the moon to incoming Freshmen, then there's no follow-through. The students who do well are those who enter with a clear vision of who they are and what they want to achieve, or the screw-ups who get special intervention. Everyone else is left to flounder, as long as they don't cause trouble.
Amazing learning experience at a high level of academics! -Alumni
I love Arapahoe High School, for the teachers, and parents, and students. I've never seen such a large school, where everyone of all ages, works together and with one another, to make sure everyone fits in and is having a great time. This school, provides so much for their students, and it can be seen on every stdents face.
Arapahoe High School was so good for my daughter that she graduated with high honors in 2009 and got several scholarship offers to some very impressive colleges and after attending the Honors Ceremony in 2009 with me, my nephew decided to move his family from another state and enroll his children in Littleton Public Schools. His oldest boy is now a Junior at Arapahoe High School.
As a student at this school I can say that i could not of gone to a better school or had better teachers. Booth is a great leader and is ALWAYS will to put kids first.
Arapahoe is top-notch. Principal Booth balances leadership a caring attitude. He expects excellence from both students and teachers and the high standards of AHS are reflected in its graduates and it reputation, not only in the District but state-wide as well. Parents, you will not regret enrolling your children at AHS.
