Good school. Superior education to public school. Christian education means strong grounding in morality and religion. Excellent facilities. Could do with more students. In a good, convenient area.

We love this pre-school! The teachers are so kind and patient. In the 3-4 year old class, the students have shown amazing growth. Most importantly, they learn to share and be good friends. I also love that they have the perks of a bigger school - the little ones get to go to the library once a week and are escorted to chapel by the second-graders. My daughter just loves that she does what the "big kids" do! It's also a great price, you get so much for your money here!

From the moment my daughter and I stumbled upon Shepherd of the Hills in a horrible personal situation (contemplating divorce) we were taken in and surrounded by care. My daughter has received an absolutely stellar education. We have a niece that lives with us going to a Cherry Creek school, and my child's education far surpasses hers. My daughter was so shy when we started and has absolutely blossomed into a confident individual through the tutelage of the staff. They offer sports which has also been a positive experience and pleasant surprise in a small environment. We feel as if we found an oasis in the midst of the city for both education and community.

This is in response to a prior review that was negative with respect to the change in principal and the supposed resulting resignations of teachers. We made a conscious decision not to be involved in the politics or know the details . Initially our son was sad that his most loved teachers had left the school and we had concerns as parents that the quality of education would suffer. However, we are pleased that the breadth of curriculum and quality is of education is as excellent as ever and our son is just as happy this year, if not more so, than the previous year. We have observed a subtle but important change in teaching approach and methods with the transition. In the previous year, the teachers tended to abide by the "spare the rod, spoil the child" rule. Our experience has been that our son responds positively to the more compassionate and flexible environment that the new teachers and principal bring to the school.

I have been highly pleased with the education and teaching staff it Shepherd of the Hills. The teachers and administration care about the families and students enrolled and truly want the best for all children. The new staff have stepped in and done a tremendous job of working with the existing staff to nurture and support the students. While many area schools have been limiting or reducing funding for music, art, PE and foreign language programs, Shepherd has made it a priority to not only continue to fund these programs but also to increase student contact time in art and PE this year. Students consistently score in the top 2% of students nationwide on the Standardized test taken each year. Not only are students that graduate from Shepherd well equipped to handle academic rigor in both public and private schools but are also prepared to be Christian leaders in the communities in which they live. I would encourage everyone looking at options for the fall to visit Shepherd of the hills Christian School.

Not only am I staff member of the school, but I have had all three of my kids graduate from Shepherd. We love the family atmosphere around this great campus! Any time my kids visit, they are always welcomed by the faculty and are always asked about how they are doing.

The atmosphere at a private school differs significantly from that of a public school. After working in both, the students are taught values and morals as well as accountability while at Shepherd of the Hills. Relationships between students and teachers is a great comfort, as well as trust that this school really exemplifies. My children have learned a great deal about their faith, as well as learning to accept one another while attending this school. The preparedness for standardized tests and achieving high expectations for work, has helped them create new goals for themselves.

Shepherd of the Hills is an amazing school. They have a small-town feel to it. I love the fact that the teachers know the kids so well. It's also obvious that the caring teachers there love what they do. My children love that place and have really excelled there. I have already recommended several people to that school and will keep recommending. My children couldn't have started their early education at a better place.

I write this with very mixed emotiions. Previous years at the school have been excellent. This past school year 2012-2013 everything begun to change with a new principal which resulted in 7 faculty members leaving, most if not all resigning. My ratings are with regards to the 2012-2013 school year, prior to that I would have given 5 stars across the board. These were excellent teachers with a long history with the school. With one month left before 2013-2014 school year begins we have 1 middle school teacher and elementary grades are being combined yet not a word from our principal with regards to a plan.

My kids have been going to Shepherd for about 10 years. Great teachers and good atmosphere for learning. Our oldest graduated last year and is right on target at his public high school which has a rigorous academic program. We have been very happy at Shepherd.

My son started in the preschool progam in August and is truly thriving! He is my first child and looking for an appropriate preschool setting had become quit stressful...I in a way stumbled onto Shephard of the Hills and boy am I glad I did! It is truly a gem of a school, with amazing teachers that have been there for years and a solid administration. They truly care for all their students and families. The added bonus of having my son start a Christian education is just icing on the cake! There are 3 teachers in his classroom and only on average about 12 children. I have been very impressed with their feedback about how my son is doing both positive and negative (its nice to know what we can work on at home!). I would recommend this school to anyone who is seeking a positive/loving environment for their children.

We have been a part of the Shepherd family for almost 5 years now. We started in preschool in 2002 and left the school in 2004 for a Gifted and Talented program in the public school system. A year and a half later we went back to Shepherd for the Christian aspect. We found that my daughter's 4th grade class was on the same learning schedule as the public school GT program for her class. Shepherd has High Academic Standards, Award winning teachers and an Amazing Family Atomosphere. Today all three of my children attend SOTH, K, 2nd and 6th. We feel Blessed to be a part of hearing the words of Jesus every day!

We LOVE Shepherd of the Hills! Th teachers and staff are amazingly warm and caring. The children are kind and well behaved. Our daughters love to go to school every day and we feel like we have been welcomed into a big happy family. The strong academics and the loving Christian environment make for a wonderful education.

Shepherd of the Hills is an amazing school. The teachers are wonderful, the curriculum has everything I was looking for (Saxon math, etc.), the test scores are excellent, and class sizes are small allowing for plenty of individualized attention. What is most remarkable to me, though, is how the entire staff truly loves, respects, and cares for the children (and families, for that matter). Probably partly because of this, the children are unusually calm, sweet, kind, and really happy to go to school. We are very happy with the Christian emphasis of the school- it adds so much, impossible in a public school. My oldest daughter has absolutely blossomed here this year in Kindergarten, and my middle child is really enjoying the preschool program. After an exhaustive search of the community last fall (at public, private, and charter schools), we feel we have ended up with the very best school.

Shepherd of the Hills has been a great experience for our two daughters. A strong academic program, variety of sports and activiites and a Christian environment have enabled them to flourish. With a solid academic and spiritual foundation, they will be ready to succeed in high school and beyond.

About these ratings

The Community Rating is the school’s average rating from its community members (e.g., parents, students, and school staff). The highest possible rating is five stars; the lowest is one star.

We currently do not have any test score information for this school. Unlike public schools, private schools are not always required to report data about their schools or not required to take the same tests as public schools. Many private schools take different standardized tests; however, that information is often made available only to families of enrolled students. We strive to acquire additional private school data whenever available.

What is the GreatSchools Rating?

The GreatSchools rating is a simple tool for parents to compare schools based on test scores, student academic growth, and college readiness. It compares schools across the state, where the highest rated schools in the state are designated as “Above Average” and the lowest “Below Average.” It is designed to be a starting point to help parents make baseline comparisons. We always advise parents to visit the school and consider other information on school performance and programs, as well as consider their child's and family's needs as part of the school selection process.
