Do your homework before enrolling your child in this school. The staff, from the teachers to the principal leadership are more concerned about state testing than the education provided to the children, as an attempt to raise their reputation, being a fairly new school. They still have a long way to go. If your child does not meet their curriculum, he/she will have a hard time at this school because teachers are more concern about the curriculum that the children's education.

I have been a staff member at BLRA for 2.5 years. Starting a new school is one of the most difficult, yet engaging and rewarding opportunities one can have to experience in their lifetime. Any new school does not open it's doors without lessons learned in the first few years. At BLRA, we are now at a point where teacher turnover has stabilized and our teachers are top notch and the best anyone can ask for! They are caring, supportive and invested in the education of every child they come in contact with. Our entire staff is committed to the education of every child in our building. From the principal, dean of students, office staff, teachers and custodial staff, we are a tight knit group of leaders that work diligently to serve our student population and community with every ounce of heart we have! Come take a tour and see!

Big mistake! Very disappointed in the school. The quality of education is very poor. The staff is very unprofessional. Students are not challenged enough and discipline is handled unproportionally. My child will not return to this school next year!

This is an excellent school. The Kindergarten program is top notch. All the teachers at the school are amazing. I love how involved the parents are in the school, as they should be! The staff is very helpful! The principal has added many new programs! I love the sports program this year! My child is way ahead of their peers that do not attend this school.

I had high hopes for this school. But the education just isn't the quality that I expected. The hands learning is less than other schools in the district. There is a very high staff turnover rate. And one has to wonder if it is such a 'high' quality school then why are all the staff leaving?

Wonderful, caring staff. Excellent curriculum. The teachers are very hands on and my children could not be happier. I find staying involved in my kids education helps me realize just how much they really are teaching them! Recommended.

I could not be happier about this school & how great this past year was! My child has been eager to come to school every day & is already looking forward to returning in Aug! The staff has been wonderful, the parent participation is fantastic & I would highly reccommend this charter to anyone who really cares about their child's education & happiness!

Overall low quality school. This school lacks most everything a parent would want for their child. There is a very high teacher/ staff turnover rate which was very disrupting to my student in the middle of the year.

We re enjoying BLRA kindergarten this year, and highly recommend it. After hearing of disorganization during BLRA s first year in existence ( 06- 07), I was a little concerned. However, I wanted to give it a chance. I was really drawn to the Mosaica/Paragon curriculum, the uniforms, the (free) all-day Kindy, and the longer school year. Being from another country, these are normal public school concepts to me. As a mother of twins, I was impressed when the registrar asked whether we wanted to keep our twins together or separate them. Our teacher and aide are spectacular. The office staff is very pleasant, and the new Principal and Deputy are visible and readily available to hear any parent concerns. Without fail, we are warmly welcomed to school by a multitude of different staff, each and every morning, starting outside in the parking lot. My boys are excited to go to school each day!

My little one's state assessment and national (IOWA) scores are not good but he is doing great according the teachers and the report cards. Im thinking the cirriculmn is off target here, too much paragon (social studie) and not enough math.

We has to make a change from a school that we used to be happy at. We were very skeptical entering BLRA, but they have set all our fears aside! The teachers that my boys have this year are fabulous! They have really made this a wonderful year for our family!!! The staff appears to make a genuine effort to greet you when you enter the building. The principal is visible and involved! My 4th grader is now reading at a 10th grade level and is being considered for the gifted and talented program for next year! We are looking forward to wonderful year next year too!

My 3rd grader is getting all A's but can barely tell time, doesn't know how many inches in a foot, or feet in a yard and can't do fractions - yes he loves the school but the kids are NOT learning anything.

My daughter enjoys this school very much. We pulled her out of Evans Elementary and we do not regret it! She enjoys Paragon, even do some parents do not understand the benefits of this course. Its basically Social Studies. My daughter has learned so many things about other cultures and religions. I feel this school has a well rounded curriculum. She is already learning basic geometry in 2nd grade. The school has some improvements to make in extra curricular act. and other minor things, but they are getting there. Parents need to remember that this school opened in 2006. They are getting there!

The Paragon curriculum requires that my daughter learn the Five Pillars of Islam. This type of multiculturalism is intrusive. Meanwhile, in my daughter's 8th grade English class the main emphasis is on reading 'chapter books.' BLRA has its priorities upside down. I would not recommend this school.

My child has been at BLRA for 2 years now. And I am very unhappy with the quality of education. I will be pulling my child from this school. There is a high staff turn over. Several staff have left in the middle of the school year distrupting the childrens learning.

I love this school. I wanted my son to stay in a relatively small school but still have the educational opportunities that you find in larger districts. We have found that at Banning Lewis. My son has always enjoyed school, but now he loves it! The staff has always been very polite and helpful and make every volunteer feel appreciated! We can;t wait for our younger son to start next year!

About the tests


In 2012-2013 Colorado used the Transitional Colorado Assessment Program (TCAP) to test students' skills in reading, writing and mathematics in grades 3 through 10, and in science in grades 5, 8 and 10. The TCAP is a standards-based test, which means it measures how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of Colorado. The goal is for all students to score at or above proficient on the test. The TCAP replaced the CSAP as Colorado's state assessment program effective for the 2011-2012 school year.

The different student groups are identified by the Colorado Department of Education. If there are fewer than 16 students in a particular group, the state doesn't report data for that group.

What is the GreatSchools Rating?

The GreatSchools rating is a simple tool for parents to compare schools based on test scores, student academic growth, and college readiness. It compares schools across the state, where the highest rated schools in the state are designated as “Above Average” and the lowest “Below Average.” It is designed to be a starting point to help parents make baseline comparisons.
