My daughter is in 6th grade and has attended CMCA since Kindergarten. She has gotten a excellent education so far and has dearly loved every teacher shes had. Best choice I ever made was enrolling her in CMCA, the instruction she has received there will last her a lifetime.
Love, love, love this school!!! My children are challenged daily. The leadership is of the highest quality, exceptional integrity and love for the students. This is by far the BEST choice I have ever made..
Because not only do they teach academics, they teach character values as well.
I love Cheyenne Mountain Charter Academy because my kindergartner can read and write in cursive after one month at the school. Direct instruction works! I wish all children had the opportunity to go to a school as wonderful as CMCA.
This school has teachers who are committed to helping students succeed. The leadership is inspiring and continually focuses on excellence. Students are challenged across the K-12 with a rigorous curriculum and opportunities for leadership development.
My daughter has attended CMCA for 2 years. This year will be her 3rd year (4th grade). We were homeschooling her prior to CMCA and I was nervous about the transition. I have been most pleased with the parent interaction from the teachers. I have had to ask for homework modifications due to her slow writing skills and they were very accommodating. If your child is doing more homework at night than the prescribed number of minutes (i.e. 30 minutes for second grade, 40 minutes for 3rd grade), make sure you give the teachers feedback so they can scale back for the entire class or give your child modifications. Very pleased with CMCA. Best school in Colorado.
In 2 years I watched CMCA go from an excellent school to a money begging organization. I spent so much money last year on things that public schools offer for free. If you are not rich and your child is not on a parent volunteer, teacher or principle favorite list, they are just shadows filling seats. The higher the grade the more favortism there is. If a child gets behind they offer no help. They just tell them it is their responsibllity. 6th = 8th grade you are expected to perform at college level. And I believe a child should not lose self esteem over any teacher or student making them feel stupid. My child will succeed without CMCA, because before this school exsisted doctors and lawyers were taught in public schools.
I absolutely agree. My three kids have attended this school for several years-- and it took that long to figure out what happens behind the scenes. The leadership is all about the test scores-- and although they demand "integrity and character" from the kids, they do not always expect the same from their staff-- and this is the worst kept secret in the school.
My son had been attending another charter school coming home in tears saying that his teacher was sarcastic and not helping. Mind you this little boy is very intelligent. Anyway after moving him to CMCA he has soared as I always new he would. Better then that his self confidence has gone through the roof. I love to see him happy! :) His first year with luck he will not only have made honor roll but principles list too. 3 schools later he has found his place.
I have 2 students attending this school. If your child has any special needs (no matter how minor), do not send them here. This school does not accomodate any special needs students. They do not have online communication with teachers or for homework purposes. My 'typical' child is doing fine, but this was a bad choice for my '504' child. Please think this school through before you decide to send your child here. The District 12 elementary schools are all '5 star' and are willing to help the child who needs it.
I have a daughter who goes to this school, and I love everything they have to offer her, some may say that this school is to strict, but I watch my daughter with her friends and they are very well-behaved, sweet, loving children. The school may be strict but I think the parents are too. . Another plus since it's such a small school, parents all know one another so we KNOW that are children will be safe when with their friends. I think ALL the staff care for the children, and I love that walking into the school the front staff can address you by name, it just makes me aware that they do keep track of who's walking into their school.
This is my daughters 2nd year at CMCA. We love it! She came out of kindergarten writing beautiful cursive, at a 1st grade math level and 2nd grade reading level. CMCA also teaches important values, so children treat eachother with respect. This school instills a love of learning in children and that going to school is about learning, not about what you wear or how popular you are in school. The teachers are wonderful and parents at this school are very involved. The direct teaching works for every child, and children are taught in small groups at the level they need. So they are challenged but not beyond their capabilities. Check out this school, it is wonderful!
We absolutely love this school - we were new last year and all three of our children have been challenged and pushed out of their comfort zones. I recently asked them if they would like to switch schools and all three said they never want to leave CMCA - they are proud of their school and what is expected of them - absolutely recommend this school without reservation.
Lets Just make this simple! Not recommended They do not live up too there own charter the filed when first operating! You better make sure that your student can pass the CSAP adn acheive and 84% in all classes. There charter states they will provide help for students that need help but they call it going above and beyond! It is Tood Bad
Before deciding on any school, do your research. CMCA isn't for everyone. If you do not want your child to learn in a structured environment, then CMCA is not for you. I can say that the high classroom structure has been exactly what my son has needed. There are minimal distractions and the focus is on learning not classroom management. Some of the reviews I have read stress the emphasis put on standardized testing. Check out the CMCA12.com website for an actual description of curriculum that the school uses. Unfortunately, schools are under tremendous pressure to perform well on standardized tests. CMCA does not teach to the test, but rather teaches the skills that are necessary to be successful on these tests. I cannot imagine sending my child to a different school. CMCA is providing him with a solid academic foundation.
I have a kindergartner there now and she is learing things I didn't know until 3-4th grade. It is an amzaing school so far, we are at the end of the year. If my child can read, write cursive, do math problems without fail, I'd say we've had an incredible first year at this school. The fact that she comes home knowing all her states and capitals (in alphabetical order no less), all the continents and about our country it just makes me beam. This school is not for every child, but you don't know unless you try. Not once has my child said she doesn't want to go to school or that she was unhappy. She loves to learn and she has fun doing it. The teachers have also been great! Kuddos to CMCA! Thanks for giving my daughter a great start in the academic world.
I had three children at this school this year. They learned one thing, how to test. They did not learn character, only that the staff didn't practice what they preached. They had no consistency. I heard lots of grumblings, but assumed it was only gossip, no more! Don't put your kids through this, mine have had a hard time since we switched schools since they were only taught to test at CMCA!
not a parent-friendly school. Teachers are not available via email, no on-line postings of grades or assignments, or text books, as many other schools are doing now. The homework/late work policy is punitive at best, and positive behavior support is NOT evident in teacher-student interactions.
