My kindergartner (now 1st) will not be returning to this school. He spent more time away from his teacher than with her. When I had questions about things in the classroom the teacher would refer me to her helper who actually knew what was happening and was with my student all day! Occasionally checking in, the teacher would be on her phone and the class was watching movies on the carpet. At graduation she called my son the wrong name twice- at the end of the year NOT HAPPY.

We love James Monroe and its highly qualfied staff! Unfortunately, we believe its CSAP scores suffer due to the effect of the low scores often achieved by kids who live in homes where English is not the primary language (perhaps the school board should consider the impact of such scores?) and the transient military kids who come from all over the world--bringing with them their own state's focus for passing their state tests. The staff, however, is a caring, challenging staff. They recognized my daughter's need for additional attention in reading and provided a game plan to improve. It worked!! When my son started Kinder--they quickly recognized his talents and monitored for continued growth. He didn't need advanced classes--but at least they were watching.
