Not happy with this school. A lot of bullying and no action to correct or ensuring that corrective actions are working. My grand-daugher comes home in tears every day, being picked on, yelled at, teased & called names. She was even slammed into her locker. I now understand why so many parents are electing home schooling.

We have not been happy with this school. We had an issue with the principal not being very smart with choosing the words she uses to define some students. We also had many problems with getting our child challenged there and even got an "Oh, your student will do even better the second time doing this class." from the vice principal when we were trying to have our child not repeat a class. Also, for a performing arts school it is unfortunate that they struggle to keep their drama program there. We will not be sending our younger kids there in the future. Thank goodness for choices!

We love Russell Middle School. We choiced in last year & have been very happy here. My daughter loves her teachers, especially her band instructor. I love the principal, she's able to have fun, smile, interact with the kids but doesn't put up with any misbehavior. Would and have recommended this school to others.

With one child going through Russell all three years with no issues at all, we figured putting the next child through with no issues but she barely made it through 6th grade. Matter of fact, after during Christmas Break we ended up pulling her immediately and homeschooling her. She came home in tears every day, was picked on, yelled at, teased, called names, off and on school grounds. As a parent, and writing several notes to teachers and staff...with no results, I wasn't going to allow my beautiful talented child to suffer any longer. Best decision we made, is to homeschool though 6th grade, now she attend A.A.C.L. and her whole world is bright and happy again. We loved Russell, but my oldest daughter class was probably one of the last great classes to pass through with integrity, honesty, caring, little people. So sad Russell has gone down the toilet. : (

i am a student who used to go to Russell Middle School of the Preforming Arts and Science during thers 2008-2009. i loved going to school there because most of the teachers were very nice to me. my classmates and i enjoyed having previlages such as the rock's shop, class trip through out our 3 years, and other actvities such as crazy hair day, hat day, and much much more. i loved it there and i would recommend it to anyone with children ages 12-15

Unfortunatly I don't feel that the teachers here have a heart for educating kids with learning disabilities. No kid should slide through the cracks just cause their slower in learning. I have since pulled my kid out to homeschool. My youngest will not attend Russell.

This school is underrated. I have found the Principle and staff to be very extremely helpful and provide every opportunity for my child to excel. Like at any school it is the parent's responsibility to stay involved and ensure their child takes advantage of tools available. I have found the online access to grades and assignments very helpful and I check online almost daily. The teachers respond to my calls and emails promptly and sincerely appreciate parents that take an active role in their child's education. I give this school a 10 and recommend it to any concerned parent.

Good office team!!! Poor student to teacher ratio. They don't care about kids who need extra help.To many very old teachers who can't relate to children of today.Children get along very well at this school.

Friendly and very helpful staff. Low teacher to student ratio and awesome extracurricular programs. We really enjoyed having the optional programs and the electives. Low crime, Low violence rates and a big emphasis on safety. Great student body.

This is an excellent middle school. There is great focus on academics, and great performance is rewarded. The music, arts and sports programs are also top-notch, and all the students are encouraged to participate. The faculty and staff are always willing to work with both parents and children to realize the child's full potential, and grade checks are sent home regularly. Parents are encouraged to assist and participate in school activities, and the PTA is very active. Most parents take an active interest in their child's school performance, and a great many attend the social and musical functions, too. Overall, this is a great school to enroll your child in.

There are some great teachers at Russell. If taught to make it interesting, the subjects there can become fasinating. I just think they have serious problems with swearing and content of speech in the hallways.

About the tests

In 2011-2012 Colorado used the Transitional Colorado Assessment Program (TCAP) to test students' skills in reading, writing and mathematics in grades 3 through 10, and in science in grades 5, 8 and 10. The TSAP is a standards-based test, which means it measures how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of Colorado. The goal is for all students to score at or above proficient on the test. The TCAP replaced the CSAP as Colorado's state assessment program effective for the 2011-2012 school year.
