It is with great despair that I report how woefully inadequate this school is in addressing learning differences. Several of it's teachers, backed by their principal have relinquished all responsibility in identifying children with LD and have caused great harm to those innocent children. One First Grade teacher exclaimed in front of the LD child, "...it's better to just allow him to compensate because he will likely never learn to read; he's just slow." A third grade teacher wanted an LD child to direct the parent teacher conference and made an opening statement that "When she was a little girl all you had to do to get an A was to try really really hard, but today, you have to actually do the work and you haven't done the work...have you...." This statement came not less than a week after this same teacher attended the child's I.E.P. meeting. If your child has LD and this school is on your radar....please, for the sake of your child's mental health...avoid this school and all involved with it at all costs. This school has cost my child dearly. The trauma he has endured should be legally actionable. Mean, hateful and ignorant teachers in grades 1-3.
What a great school this has been for both my children. The new Principal, Dr Hollenbeck, has made an enormous improvement with the enthusiasm for learning from the students. With the superhero capes she sews for achieving reading goals, and the welcoming staff and teachers, I am so pleased with this school. We live where we could attend Steele or Taylor, and I wouldn't change schools for anything.
