I've been at Sand Creek for several years now. Although a few of the teachers are amazing, there are a lot of drawbacks to this school. The level at which students are asked to perform is lower than at most schools - the academics need work. Students are not engaged. The administration seems disorganized, detached, and can be rude at times. I would not send my kid here.
All four of my children attended Sand Creek, with my oldest starting in 2005 and my youngest graduating this year. All of my kids participated in the wonderful AP classes and I know their education here prepared them for their success in college. In the last 9 years (geez!), the administration has gone through a lot of changes, but I have always felt informed and had my questions answered. If you and your children are willing to out in the effort, the school will match it. It seems a lot of people these days expect teachers to perform miracles in the classroom while they do nothing at home! Great schools can't work without families.
I am Currently attending Sand Creek high school and i love it! The only reason that any student would have any problems here is do to them and their personality. i am a very positive person and things seem to go my way. if you walk into school creating problems and aren't motivated to learn, you will have problems and not learn anything. i think that you can't always Blame the school or the teachers, this is all up to the student.
I am a former student of Sand Creek, I graduated 2 years ago. And in my time at Sand Creek I had my fair share of ups and downs but that's honestly what high school is all about. Sand Creek might not be the best school in the city but it is certainly not the worst by any stretch of the imagination. High school is honestly what you make of it and if you just do what you're supposed to do and surround yourself with good people then things honestly won't be that bad. And also getting involved will help because you may find that you make friendships with other students that have things in common with you. I was involved with band and without that type of creative outlet I can't imagine what my high school career would have been like. I hope that this review was somewhat helpful as a perspective of someone who spent 4 years at Sand Creek and is currently enrolled in college and doing well. Before you take any of these reviews to heart, try out the school for yourself before you buy into other people's opinions and "victim" stories
As a military family we have seen our share of bad and good schools. This is one of the worst schools we have been apart of. Enrolled the kids before school started and they still couldn't start till 4 days later. They lost the school they were transferring in from paperwork, and they put my kids in classes they had already completed, had no interest in, or were not ready for. Staff tells you one thing, then trys to lay blame on you when they want it a different way or the way it should have been from the begininng......I have two kids in this school and out of all teachers they have there is only two that are great teachers, the rest are lazy and to me not qualified to be teachers. The Asst. Principal talks to you like you are stupid......oh and even if your kids are excussed from school with a doctors note, the school will send you court papers for days misses and tell you that you much comply with school rules....well here are the rules.....you must have a doctors note or other agency note to be considered excused and no more than 10 notes via parents in a year......this school should be closed!!!
Sand creek is one of or if not the WORST schools Ive ever been to. Ive been going to SCHS since the middle of my freshman year, when I started I felt like I had no help!! The teachers are the main problem it seems like they just hire anybody!
I am a student attending this school who is going to be a senior. I don't understand why all these parents are saying that it is the worst school ever. Quite honestly, I think the complete opposite. I have enjoyed going to this school since Freshman year. I am not great at school and the teachers do help me out. I mean sure, there are going to be teachers that don't care. But that happens in every high school. So why are these parents picking on this school. Yes, there are a lot of catty girls here. But we are all teenagers. Its bound to happen just like every other school. We offer AP and honors classes and I know many people who take those classes to great advances. We don't have an outstanding sport record but its not the worst either. The music programs are amazing.I <3 SCHS.
I was a former student at Sand Creek, and I could not wait until I could get out of that school! I'd do anything to not go to school everyday. Some of the teachers are ok, and some I could not stand. I didn't graduate from there because I didn't want to be there, so nothing ever got done. I went to Doherty Night school after not graduating. I wish I would have gone there senior year. Now THAT is a great school. The teachers there actually care about you and if you graduate. I didn't like the kids at SC either. They are rude, and have no respect for anyone except whoever is in their 'posy'. I would not suggest having your kids go to SC. They'll hate it! Thank goodness I'm never going back!!!
Like any metropolitan school, Sand Creek has good and not so good attributes. The principal is responsive to concerns, and I never worry about my chilren's safety. I am glad they are now a IB candidate school. Most of the teachers are good, but they tend not to read IEPs, I go to parent teacher conferences with a copy in hand. Angela at the front desk is amazing! I swear she knows the name of every student? My nephew graduated there with good critical skills and I have a son there now.
Do not, I repeat do not enroll your kid in this school!!!! Go to D-11. Worst high school in the city.
I have two children in this high school. I would say that it is an average school and the education they are receiving does have room for improvement. Many of the problems found in this school are due to the students and their lack of motivation and interest in school. The school does offer a handful of AP classes and honors classes but I feel that they do not live up to the expectations of such high level classes. We have also had some problems with some of the teachers and their negative attitudes. There are some very good teachers at the school and your student is lucky to get them. I would suggest looking at a different school district for your child because the middle school that my daughters attended wasn't much better.
I agree do not go to school in this district. your child will wish they never came here. My daughter prays everyday why here?
I am a recent graduate of Sand Creek (salutatorian class of 2007) and am currently at a competitive private university. I have found that my high school education was way better than a lot of students that went to more 'successful' high schools. Sand Creek is a much better school than I had appreciated when I went there. The teachers are very good at what they do. They are fantastic at teaching things that don't show up well in standardized testing, like critical thinking. The current principal, Mike Collins, is fantastic. He really cares about what is in the students' best interests. The pre-engineering program is one of the best in the country. The theater program is fantastic. Sand Creek has a fantastic auditorium, a couple of amazing directors, and has historically had a good pool of actors. The track and cross country teams are very successful, with a very good coach.
I am currently a Sophmore attending SCHS. They have a good softball program that I have been in for the last two seasons. I like that they offer AP and honor classes. I am currently in one AP course, two honors, and two math classes. I feel that I can push my self with all the challenging classes they offer. My sister, Paula, is a Senior this year. She is able to take part in clubs like DECA, FBLA, and Sister Sorority(She is the President). we are both very pleased with the school.
I have 3 Children and have had experiences with many school districts. I also have friends/teachers in the various school districts in Colorado Springs. By far,D-49; Sand Creek stands out! There isn't a school district out there with nay-sayers. Unfortunately that happens with everything. 'The Academies' at Sand Creek truly prepare Students who already are interested in a career field for College. In particular the Engineering Academy. This program gives Students an advantage over other in-coming freshman at any State College or University. We have engineers in the Family, they say what my sons have been doing in engineering at Sand Creek directly parallels what they did their first 2 years in college. In addition to the 'Academies' I find that in general the Teaching Staff is Top-notch. I have never been in a district where the teachers are always in touch with parents and concerned for thier childs well being.
I taught at this school for 5 years. It is less than average. Some teachers are great. If you want your child to have an excellent education in Colorado Springs, stick with districts 12, 20, 38...even 11 over Falcon 49. The students are good kids but motivation is very low. Athletics are OK, track is great.
I am a father of two girls who attend SC. Both my daughters love it. What I love is that the teachers hold them responsible for everyhing, actions, homework attitude. They prepare you for the real world! Great school.
This school has awful leadership and it seems to have a general rule that if you aren't bleeding you're fine. If you have a daughter get her out now. The girls are the worst back stabbing children that you will ever meet. I chose to attend a different school.
My daughter received an A in Algebra 1 and we tested her and she failed with another school placement and had to take summer school. The teachers grade by just Turing in the work not by what they have learned. Music Program was Ok. She progresses so much once we put her in a different school all the way around attitude, performance and learning ability.
I attended this school for 2 and a half years. everything i learned there and the friends i made will stay with me for the rest of my life. Distric 49 has not only 1 great school. But 2, as far as sports goes, ride with sand creek. I will carry that experiance for the rest of my life.
