We came to Brown last year because of its "flooding" reading coupled with Accelerated Reading, and regular staff meetings to review student progress. For "flooding" and AR, students are grouped by where they are actually reading or in math, not by their grade level. Then, staff meet regularly to adjust educational plans based on what is actually happening. Our child has an IEP (needs extra support) due to illness. We feel strongly that Brown's systematic approach inherently will adapt to her needs - whether she needs more time or more challenge. The Brown community is building and growing with many parents volunteering and growing the PTO as well as other volunteer initiatives. Last Spring's volunteer breakfast had more than 50 attending... with more than 100 invitations sent. We're very happy to be part of this up and coming school and its community.
We selected Brown because they offered the IB curriculum. Our daughter is in 1st grade and started Brown in ECE (prekinder). We are very happy with her academic achievement already this year. She also likes to discuss events or topics that affect the planet and society over dinner. If raising a child to be aware of the world around them is important to you, I highly recommend this school. Academically it has been on an upward trajectory since revitalization. There is a great story behind the scores.
The school community at Brown is outstanding. I have a 1st grader and kindergartner and I feel very supported as a parent. The teachers are very caring and dedicated to providing more than just standard learning materials. My favorite aspect is the school's endeavors to make the kids feel like they are responsible for others as well as themselves, and that they are part of a larger community than their small sphere of classroom activities.
Our child has been attending Brown for two years now, and we have been thrilled by the teachers and the learning that is taking place. My child had a wonderful teacher for Kindergarten, and this year had an amazingly-talented first-grade teacher. Classes were large this year, but the teacher clearly had the respect of her students and the classroom environment was friendly and orderly. My child's reading has improved dramatically, from barely reading to reading at above a 2nd-grade level at the end of the year! In math, he has also exceeded expectations, despite his short attention span. The principal is very approachable and visible in the hallways and the office staff is super friendly.
When we selected Brown we were so excited about the IB curriculum. What we soon found out is that the curriculum is not at all challenging; our 1st grader is bored! The apathy in the classroom is also a problem, and it clearly affects children who are eager to learn and excited about school. I am not impressed and my experiences with the principal have not been good. I do have to say, the Kinder team is great, but it's a big disappointment afterward.
Great teachers who are teaching my child about a caring attitude, diversity, cultural awareness, thoughtfulness, environmental awareness as well as how to read, write and do math.
We just joined Brown and we couldn't be happier! Wonderful & caring teachers, great parent involvement, nice classrooms and equipment.
I love Brown's sense of community plus the fact that Brown teachers are teaching our children how to become great citizens of the world
The families, teachers, administration - they're all dedicated, engaged and enthusiastic about the wonderful learning the children are doing.
Our son just completed ECE at Brown IB Academy and we were very please with the school. The teachers are great, the administration committed and driven, and the curriculum is very strong. Of additional note, parent involvement is great.
We are so happy that Brown is our neighborhood school! Great things are happening both inside the classroom and outside of the classroom. There are many hardworking teachers at Brown committed to providing a solid education for all students in our community. The staff(including the teachers, office staff, paraprofessionals, administrators) and parents of Brown are working together to make our neighborhood an even better place to live!
My wife and I heart Brown. The PTO is fantastic and is a fun and lively group of people. The fundraisers that we have done in the past 6 months really have been fun. My daughter is in Ms. Shannahans first grade class and we love her as a teacher. Sheri in the office is amazing, I don't know what I would do with out her guidance and support. Brown really is a community and I look forward to watching my daughter and the Brown community grow as she advances through elementary school.
This school has terrific leadership, talented and motivated teachers, an awesome IB curriculumn, good facilities, and active parents. My kids are extremely happy, motivated and loving to learn.
When we visited Brown we knew right away that this was the school for our family. The staff is upbeat, forward thinking and committed. Susanne, the principal, is amazing - she runs the school like a business and in this day and age in the DPS realm that is the only way a school will survive. The staff & parents have brought so many programs to the school - a dental program, salad bar, fruit for every child ever day, community garden to name a few. The reading program is amazing. We also love the parent community at school. We feel so lucky to be part of Brown.
We love this school for both of our children. The IB curriculum is just what we were seeking in a school program - the IB attitudes reflect our own values, the topics the kids are studying are relevant to today's world, the after-school activities are excellent, and the school's approach to testing (taking a holistic approach to assessments rather than relying on CSAPs alone) are all wonderful qualities in a school. We love the parent community at Brown, too. We can think of no other school we'd rather send our kids to.
My daughter has been attending since ECE and she has loved ever part of her experience. The teachers are very supportive and proactive as well as the staff. I don't know how I would survive without their 'go to' staff. All in all....I am grateful to have found this hidden gem of a school.
I am so happy with Brown, the teachers and staff are amazing, and Suzanne the principal is GREAT! we are so lucky to be here! looking forward to many more great years
We're new to Brown this year, our daughter is in ECE. We absolutely love everything about it - strong principal, wonderful teachers/staff, incredibly engaged, forward-thinking parent involvement and last but not least, the IB curriculum can't be beat. As world travelers ourselves, we love that our kids will understand their place in the world as a whole.
We are so impressed with all of the extracurricular activities at Brown as well as the geat parental involvement!
My daughter is in kindergarten @ Brown and I am so impressed by her teacher, Mr Tosston, as well as the faculty and school itself. The international awarness they promote in addition to the regular academics is what I was looking for in a school.
