Profile Completeness

INTERMEDIATE

Want to improve this school’s profile? You can!

All schools on GreatSchools begin with BASIC completeness, which includes important information like contact details and test scores. It’s up to the school community to take the next steps. As a parent or community member, you can share what you know with other families by writing a review or answering a few questions about what the school offers. As a school leader, you can upload photos, describe school programs, and more with an Official school profile.

The completeness meter moves to INTERMEDIATE, then ADVANCED, and finally HONOR ROLL as you complete the following: 10 or more reviews, at least 1 photo, and 9 program questions parents find helpful.

Love, love, love this school. If you want your kids to learn in a logical hands-on way, and learn about the world and other people in a way that a test can never account for, this is the school for you. It is truly a special place.

Gilpin is on its way to being a true success story for the Denver Public Schools! As a public Montessori school closest to downtown Denver, it provides access to a quality Montessori education for a diverse student body. Each year gets better and better. My son is in his second year of the primary level, and he has thrived at Gilpin. His teacher runs a disciplined and authentic Montessori classroom. Class sizes are small, teachers are engaged, and parent participation is increasing. I love the attention that is spent on grace and courtesy along with independent learning. Good things are happening here!

Gilpin is a great neighborhood Montessori school - one of the few in the nation. There is a wonderful amount of diversity at all ages, and all of the kids seem to thrive in the Montessori environment.

My daughter has been attending Gilpin for four years now. The teachers are amazing, the support staff is unbelievable and the parents are so supportive. It is really unfair that they gave the school 1/10 rating.

Our daughter thrives at Gilpin Montessori. The relationship she has with her wonderful teacher is priceless. The Gilpin Montessori community is welcoming and continues to strengthen with it's envolved staff and families. I am so thrilled we made the switch to Gilpin. I am excited to be apart of this growing school.

Gilpin Montessori is an innovative school, enlists parent and community involvement, and is continuously growing. As a teacher at Gilpin, I would highly recommend this school!

We have been at Gilpin for 3 years now. Something I feel is missing from standard education is making sure the foundation is at 100% before continuing onto the higher level instruction. Each child here is guided by teachers individually to ensure they completely understand the lesson before they can move up to the next level. If standardized testing cannot reflect that, it is unfortunate. I would rather my child take time to fully comprehend a concept, then get a "good enough" passing grade and continue on just to keep up with their peers. A building with a stronger foundation can accommodate more levels.

We're a few years out from our firstborn being school age, but have already done a tour with Gilpin. We are excited to "choice" into this school and have our kids get a Montessori education. The principal and teacher we met were very thorough in answering our questions and very positive about the changes happening in the school since it has switched to Montessori. A parent on the tour said parent involvement was good and continually improving. My husband wasn't sure what the big deal about Montessori was until he saw what the classrooms were like firsthand. We're excited to start getting involved!

1 out of 10 rating is so unfair. First, I don't believe test scores tell you anything about anything. But also, these test scores are reflecting an older set of kids who did not benefit from the Montessori method that was brought to the school in the last several years, once the kids going through the Montessori method reach the higher grades, the testing will reflect what's really going on at this school, and it's awesome what's going on! Anyone wondering should just take a tour and see for yourself. It's only a matter of time before this school is one of the coveted schools everyone wants to choice into. We consider ourselves very lucky to live here and have such an awesome public school nearby that is really embracing the Montessori method. The principal is very dedicated, the teachers and staff really believe in what they're doing, and the children are happy and proud too. It's currently underfunded so any parent involvement, especially in raising funds, is essential. Be ready to be a team player and get involved.

This is our second year at Gilpin. Both of my children love their teachers and are excited about learning. My mother-in-law has trained and taught in Montessori. She took a tour of Gilpin and was very impressed with their set up and tools. I've seen change at this school within the last two years and I think it's only getting better. I recommend this school if it is Montessori you are looking for. It does need a little help with parent participation but overall - we are happy.

Gilpin is a fantastic school that provides Montessori education for the urban initiative. The teachers work their tales off as does the administration. I would not consider sending my children anywhere else.

If you have not been to Gilpin during this school year, you really need to take the time to check it out. This school has done a total 180. Was the school underperforming before? Yes. Has it made neccessary and difficult changes to raise the school to a completely different level? YES! It is now a Montessori based school, which provides an excellent environment and foundation for life-long leaners. Gilpin has a new principal, Frank Vincent, who is providing the required leadership to turn the school around. Principal Vincent is in fact, a nationally recognized Montessori educator and administrator. He is a catch. All of the teachers are now Montessori trained. Their in-class materials are beautiful. The school is clean and orderly and the students are focused on learning. Teachers don't find themselves disciplining a few students at the detriment of the rest of the class. They serve healthy meals, made from scratch and are even starting a garden this spring so they can eat the veggies in the fall. Make an appointment for a tour. Check out the school and witness what the school has become!

My son was a student a Gilpin K-8 since Kindergarten. We choiced in because as a single parent Gilpin was the best school for my son at the time for many reasons. He is now in 4th Grade, but we have moved to a different school for various reasons. His testing scores last year were significant to his overall attendance and all of the teachers that impacted his education in a powerful way since the day he started Kindergarten. His fourth grade teacher, Micheal Sterling, not only exemplified knowledge and wisdom but everyday challenged my son, and his entire class beyond metocrity. His passion to teach went beyond teaching literature, writing and mathematics. He chellenged them daily. Congratulations Gilpin and Thank You for amking a difference. My son is on his way to academic excellence because his foundation was excellent!
