My daughter is in Kindergarten and loves her school. I love the small class sizes and the diverse community. Her classmates are all so different and she is learning how to get along with so many different types of people. I love our walks to school together and the later start time (8:45) makes the morning stress free. Mr. Malling and the teachers are dedicated to Stedman's success and every year the school gets better.
We love this school. My daughter who has SPD and ADHD is thriving. She is happy, feels liked, and successful. The principal is very involved and innovative. Special Education services are great. We are very happy we transferred our child to this school.
My son has attended Stedman for the last four years and I volunteer in the classrooms regularly. I have observed the following: a hands-on principal, teachers who genuinely care about student success, and a group of children who have treated my son with kindness (even though he is "different.") I realize that this school needs to improve their academic standings, but there is no reason that they can't be rated with the top elementary schools in Denver, if given some time and the support of the neighborhood.
My family and I love Stedman! We left for two years, but when they had openings, I brought the whole family over as well! The principal is great, teachers are awsome, and it feels like a community. I check in with my son about school daily and he says school was awesome! I have not seen him this happy about school in a long time. There is also a great PTA that is involved and parents are involved as well. If you do not check out this school, you are missing out!
I am a professor of education with a PhD in Education from UCLA and teach at the School of Education at the University of Colorado. Stedman is a place where the teachers and the principal authentically care about their students, families, and community. You feel welcomed and honored to be a part of that community. They provide afterschool programs, childcare for parent meetings, family dinners for after school functions, etc. This is a place where they welcome and honor diversity instead of viewing urban students of color as a deficit. Amazing school!
Stedman is a fantastic school with a great sense of community. The teachers are dedicated and go above and beyond to help children succeed. I have two children there, one is in the ECE program and the other is in kindergarten. We love Stedman.
Stedman is a wonderful school with great teacher and parent involvement. It has a great "old school" feel. I've found many of the newer schools are just a box. With all the activities there is never a dull moment. music and art and P.E. I feel like my daughter has blossomed here and will be bringing her back next year.
Stedman is a fantastic neighborhood school with dedicated group of parents and staff. Principal Malling has been on the job for the past two years making incredible strides in raising the bar for the students and teachers. Prinicipal Malling goes above and beyond in making sure the needs of his students are addressed and handled with care. Teachers at Stedman are like family. They nurture, instruct, and set high expectations for students. What Stedman may lack in funding from DPS, the Stedman community makes up for with it's warm, welcoming, and supportive spirit. I am so happy to send both my boys to a learning environment that is daily cultivating their future success.
Just two weeks after my daughter started school at Stedman, she came home singing the school song: "Stedman Knights, Turn on the Lights, Knowledge is Power!" You can feel the strong sense of community when you walk in the door of Stedman. With less than 400 students at Stedman, kids and adults know each other's name. I love that teacher's use positive reinforcement instead of punishment by giving out "caught in the acts" to kids for positive behaviors. Stedman has a positive learning environment with strong leadership. Stedman doesn't get the high scores that it deserves.
Stedman provides a nurturing and safe environment where kids are encouraged to excel academically. In my 9 years as a Stedman parent, my children have had excellent teachers who strived to meet their unique needs and challenge them. I am grateful for the happy, kind and supportive culture at Stedman and for the great start it has given my children in their educational careers.
Stedman provides an excellent environment for learning. The teachers and staff give the children lots of extra help when needed. I would like to let the parents in the Parkhill Community know they are missing out on a great opportunity by choicing out their community to other schools. Stedman offers excellent after school and summer enrichment programs. Such as art, reading sports and much more. Think about it parents you are missing all these supplements the school offers.
We attended Stedman for the Advanced Kindergarten program, and have remained there since. You will not find a more dedicated, friendly committed group of teachers/administrators. Stedman has also won Colorado's Center of Excellence award 3 years in a row for academic growth. Don't be fooled by the Great School's low rating, this school is an amazing, loving environment with a focus on each individual student and their academic progress. As a neighborhood school, I'd put it at the top of the list in DPS.
Stedman is a GREAT school! My daughter has done well and she is now in the 5th grade.
Stedman Elementary is an excellent school. My daughter and our family had a good experience this year. My daughter now is a good reader and speller. My daughter did not have these skills until she went to Stedman. If you are looking for a great school in the HEART of Parkhill I recommend Steadman. It's the BEST....
Stedman Elementary School in Denver, Colorado is a great school because the Teachers and the Principle are highly innovative in their delivery of educational services to students. Not only do they bring a real sense of community to the neighborhood, but they are great at bringing the community to the school. The after school programming really engages those students that participate, and during the summer, the school goes far beyond providing free U.S.D.A. meals to children in the community, but Stedman offers a Summer Scholars Program (teachers volunteer their time) so the students won't fall behind in their learning. A community is only as good as it's schools, and Stedman Elementary Schools makes Norteast Parkhill a great community to live in.
when I started my kids at Stedman It was just because it was my neighborhood school. I have come to love love the principal and the teachers that both my children have had. the advanced kindergarten is a great program and the teacher is great!!! The principal and teachers really care about the students.
My son has attended Steman's Advanced Kindergarten this year and we love it! The teachers are welcoming and supportive. The principal is available and involved. We would strongly recommend the school to anyone in the area!
I am dislike this school and how they handle bullying. They teach to test and my child has fallen behind in 6 months
I love stedman! my children attended cherry creek school district before stedman i never thought stedman would compare, but they have the best principal i have ever met she is very involved with the kids. Stedman has provided free tutoring for math and reading which has helped my children so much, stedman is now providing all day kindergarten for my ece child, i even qualified for all day free kindergarten neatless to say steman has a lot of great learning programs at affordable or free prices.
