Wyatt-Edison Charter Elementary School 2

Wyatt is going on their third principal in 3 years. Extreme emphasis on testing, very little support for teachers in day to day instruction. No curriculum....teachers have to make it up on their own. Unapproachable administration. Some of the best teachers anywhere have all left in the past 3 years. Constant new staff... teachers leave in the middle of the year with no explanation. Chaos!! Rated "F" by state for many good reasons. Don't believe it when they tell you the school is improving or trending upward. All responsibility for school failure is put on teacher's backs due to lack of administrative support. Administration for the most part is rarely available for teachers or students other than to discipline and only comes into classrooms to evaluate teachers twice per year. Admin unaware of what is happening in classrooms on a daily basis. DO NOT ENROLL AT WYATT!!

Teacher effectiveness: Somewhat effective

Due to the fact that Wyatt does not have any curriculum and teachers were required to create weekly curriculum on top of weekly lesson plans(without additional time to do this each week) it was nearly impossible for teachers to be effective in instruction....they are teachers not curriculum writers!!

Amount of homework: Just right

Homework is not proven to help students. Although required by administration most teachers did not give it consistently due to the amount of research that supports no homework.

There are individual teachers who recognize the importance of these values and cultivate them within their classrooms. There is a school wide statement about culture that includes these concepts but it is mostly just emphasized at the beginning of the year, except for the above mentioned situations with individual teachers.

By far the most horrible school in the Denver area the the staff there are by far the best people there with such enthusiasm ......(sarcasm) and is horrible run there constantly changing the school i mean you expect students to treat you with respect (common sense) I've been going there since 2nd grade till 8th grade yet i don't feel prepared to go to high school

Wyatt works hard to meet all students needs. I am amazed with the teachers and all the awards Wyatt wins. Did you know Wyatt was given the Department of Educations Center of Excellence award for two years in a row? Wyatt was also just awarded The Governor's Distinguished Improvement Awards. Only 22 schools in Denver received this award. I am proud of Wyatt and all the work it does.

I feel like wyatt has change a great deal. It at one time was a family oriented school. It seems as though the face of the school is changing, and the focus is no longer the students and families. There has not been a steady leadership in the building and it seems as if they cant find the right leader(principle) for Wyatt, and because of this many families are not happy with Wyatt Edison. Many families have been apart of the Wyatt and the community for years and feel that something needs to be done. It breaks my heart to see a Great school go loose such great values that it once obtained.
