My children have (unfortunately for them) been to many schools. After reading reviews I chose to drive my children 30 miles everyday to go to this school. It is, as I would say, average. Nothing too special about them. Seems like a typical elementary school. After the end of the school year of 2011, I decided to send them to the Cripple Creek/Victor school district - Cresson Elementary. I am SOOOOOOO happy with that school! If you have the choice, send them there! They really focus on each individual child and their learning capabilities. They do not hold the children back who are advanced and are certain to work with those that are behind. They have a new principal who is wonderful! Her own son is a student at the school, with a new fresh look at education. And you can be sure she wants the best for her children as well. Don't discount the Cripple Creek/Victor School District.
Mrs,Meyrs is one of my faverit teacher so far in school.Mr,Loyns is a good teacher too.I like this school very much. Darby Adelle Eudy Thank you for making Darby's school fun and all of you do an incredible job of preparing her for the real world. I hope to get down from Denver soon to thank you in person! I have nothing but good things to say about Summit. The Principle Mr. Holly takes the time to get to know each child and there parents (he's not just sitting in his office behind a desk) he is involved and connected with the children. The teachers are all wonderful. Just like our children are all different the teachers too are all different in there on way and teach with different teaching styles, but they still work together and it works. Children don't all fit the same mold and I feel Summit has met that need. The only thing I wish is that there was a Middleschool and Highschool in Divide that my four children could go to.
My son went to third and fourth grades at Summit. Third grade went fairly well, but fourth grade left much to be disred. The classrooms were overcrowded and his teacher, when she was there, put little effort into really trying to help her children. The lunch program is terribly inadequate and our son had almost no computer skills tought to him. He will be going to one of the highest ranked schools in the state that we are moving to and we fear he will be behind. Mr. Holly loves the children but his punishment often does not meet the crime. The discipline seems to be harsher for the boys than for the girls. Mr. Holly is accessible but there usually is not a real resolution in the end. Our experience at Summit was not a good one and we feel that our son did not get a good education there.
This school has been absolutely wonderful for my children. I have four children that range from fourth grade down to kindergarten. The eagerness from all of the teachers to keep the parents involved and updated has been a godsend! The willingness from the teachers to meet each childs needs and strengths, whatever they may be, has been apparent throughout the years. All of my children have thrived using the music, art, and physical education programs. I have enjoyed watching each of them come into his and her own 'little person' with the help and love from all of the staff at Summit Elementary.
My oldest is in first grade. The teachers so far have been great and his teacher now, Mrs. Barnes, is wonerful. She is very patient and caring and easy to talk with. You can tell the principal, Mr. Holly, really cares about the kids. He is always smiling and pleasant. The office staff however could be a bit more friendly and acknowledge you when you walk in the office. Champions, part of Summit which has before and after school care and preschool from 8:45 to 12:00 could use some work. Although my youngest likes it, When I go in they never even look up from what they are doing. For example, my husband picked up my son one day and they don't know him or what he looks like because I always pick him up. They never even looked at him or said a word. That to me is a safety issue!
