I have had children in this school for the past 5 years and have found that it is on track with what my children need.
The potential for the HS at Legacy is exciting. We had doubts because the HS is small, but that was short-sighted. Administration + teachers are strongly committed to providing a strong college preparatory high school program while also offering CHSAA league sports and other extra-curricular activities. They are very open to ideas for class content, activities, and scheduling. Character development is emphasized and behavioral expectations are high. Parents are strongly encouraged to participate in the school. It is a great opportunity to, as a family, be part of a closely-knit school community. They are offering AP and dual-credit courses, and have a good college counseling program. If you are looking for a high profile, big-name HS, this may not be for you. If you want your child to have a very personal learning experience and close friendships, with focused preparation for their college years, this school deserves a closer look.
This school is very slow in everything they do. The Principal blocks every activity and is very slow to get anything done. My son was suppose to have dual credit classes this year and they were suppose to get this done last year. However, no one made the correct calls. Also they failed to higher a foreign language teacher (which is required in the state of Colorado) so now they all must take it online where they aren't learning near as much as they should. Also, they have a very small class selection and don't do anything to help the situation. They refuse to buy into the athletic program. Parents are a joke here as well. They continue to try and push out the high schoolers. Anytime anything goes wrong in the school everyone looks in the high school's direction. Terrible school. Don't move to Elbert County, worst school district ever.
ECCS teaches the Hirsch Core Curriculum and Saxon Math. They have school uniforms and empahsize character development.
I believe this is one of the best schools in the state of colorado! I have lived in california, have homeschooled my own children and have worked at many different public schools. I believe highly in the structure and discipline of the charter school philosophy.
