Coal Ridge has begun a new era! They have a new administration that is involved, positive, and hard working. My son feels safe and is learning much this year from a team of dedicated teachers committed to high student achievement. And it can only get better as CRMS moves forward with this new leadership.

I love this school because the staff and faculty have the kids take responsibility for their school. They tell the kids that they need to report behaviour they see and don't want to see in their there school. The self empowerment and responsibility these kids are learning is a great asset and teaches them to take a stand to improve their lives and surroundings in and out of school. As a parent I think this is very important and I am pround of the faculty and staff for teaching it.

The school is not very big. Its hard to get to classes due to the crowded hallways. The lockers are inside the homeroom so students are late most of the time because they have to go back to their homeroom. The staff doesn't have any communication with the students. There are a lot of bully's there and wannabe gang members such as the juggalos. People bring lighters and ciggerates to school and students do not report them because the office has trouble keeping the reporters anonymous.

My son is in 6th grade honors and loves his teachers, I think the principle needs to be more involved though! I think the upper admin at this school really fails the students and parents. There are some great teachers but they don't have the support of the upper admin. I think the teacher/parent communication could be improved as well.

We have been pleased with our 13 year olds education at Coal Ridge. I agree that there needs to be more parental involvment with the school. I have never felt like our son has been unsafe. The band program is excellent and we have also been happy with the honors program.

Coal Ridge is a decent, average school. I'm not impressed by the classes offered nor with parent/teacher communication. There are few opportunities for true electives, and arts and music are obviously low-priority offerings. What passes for honors classes would be standard classes at most other middle schools I've had experience with. I'm disappointed with the level of communication from teachers, even when I call or email them directly. The school website is regularly out-of-date and, consequently, not very informative. Extra-curricular activities are few and costly. I appreciate that the staff are overall nice, but I would prefer a stronger educational status. Budget cuts have not helped matters. I wish we had a convenient alternative to CRMS!

I think the upper admin at this school really fails the students and parents. There are some great teachers but they don't have the support of the upper admin. I'm glad to see more charter schools opening up in the area as it gives parents more options as to where they send their children.
