My son is engaged and learning so much in Kindergarten. Shelton has superior teachers, aides, and administrative staff. I volunteer one morning a month in my son's classroom and enjoy helping and getting to know the kids. Shelton offers extracurricular activities - science fair, oral interpretation, geography bee - to name a few. The Parent, Teacher, Student Association is active. I can't say enough good things about Shelton!!

My daughter is in Kindergarten this year. She is loves the school, her teacher and the library dog Libby. She is reading at 1st grade level. Every single child in Mrs. Weitzel's class is reading at grade level or above. There is huge amounts of parent involvement. There is one mother who actually volunteers 40 hours a week. This school deserves to be recognized for the great school they are.

Love this school... My daughter has been here for four years. Agree with the comments below. Love the music and art programs. Could have sent my child to Kyffin GT but their after school program was full and the place seemed PACKED! My daughter has had some great teachers. Ms. Schultz was her favorite. Parents are finally starting to participate more in PTSA which always makes a huge difference.

Shelton has really been a great school for my son. The teachers have been caring and the principal is really invested in raising the bar for this school. Though the scores are not as high as some of the other Golden schools, it has way more diversity and socioeconomic levels. I feel my son really benefits from that and is not just in a "sea of white". There are many extracurricular after school programs, contests, and academic events for my son to participate in, as well. I had considered putting him in Free Horizon at one point because I heard so many good things but when comparing it side by side, the structure and quality of student work, suprisingly, was better at Shelton. My hope is that Shelton will get some more male teachers and work on their science/technology curriculum.

I think Shelton does an excellent job at helping students to feel excited about school. Tammy Harvey is an outstanding kindergarten teacher - probably the best in the state. Get her if you can! My son's now in 1st grade and is having a good experience with Debi Ankele. I wish there was more support for music, arts, and sports, but like most schools in Colorado, those areas are underfunded. As a result, expect to pay for extracurricular opportunities in those areas and expect a large number of school fundraisers. Pretty good parent involvement given the economic diversity of the school.

Our daughter is now in her second year (1st grade). Although some people I have met have expressed concerns about the school, my wife and have been pleased so far. The principal seems very competant and the parents involved. Like any school, the teachers you get can make all the difference. So far we have been blessed w/ the really good ones. we'll have to see what happens down the road.
