Shelton is great! The teachers are amazing - a balance of fun/nurturing and academically challenging. The environment is warm, welcoming, and creative. The parent community is friendly and supportive. Our current principal is passionate and has worked hard to build strong ties within the school and in the community. Our incoming principal is equally committed to Shelton and, I'm sure, will continue to lead our children and school toward excellence. In short, we love it.
This is my 11th year at Shelton, and I still love it!! We have had a great principal for the past 8 years (who is only leaving because of her husband's job). She has hired many quality teachers to round out an excellent staff. Our incoming principal is already well known by many of us parents, and we are very excited to have her lead our school. The parent involvement is great, the extracurricular activities are well run, and the communication is fantastic. It simply is a wonderful school!
Shelton has been a great fit for our family. The school provides a great balance of academic challenge and many opportunities for the kids to explore their creativity and passion in a variety of topics and extra-curricular activities. The school has a welcoming environment that celebrates the rich diversity of the students, which brings a wonderful depth to the educational experience. Parents and teachers are passionate, engaged and committed to the school and the students.
Shelton Elementary has amazing teachers, dedicated parents and well behaved kids. We have an amazing Science Discovery Lab with experiments that correlate specifically to lesson plans in each grade. The School of Mines is very involved with this school in the lab on a monthly basis and during Science Night. My 3rd grader is a full level ahead in reading and math and my kindergartner loves going to school each day. This school is welcoming and enriching. This school offers more diversity than any other school in Jeffco. My kids are lucky to be going to school with kids from all over the world while their parents get degrees from the School of Mines. I highly recommend this school. The teachers and staff care about the kids and it shows. I love that my kids attend the neighborhood school and can walk, scooter, or bike to school on most days!
Shelton is remarkably diverse in a state where it can be hard to find diversity. Better yet, the school encourages learning from the diversity. The result is a place that emphasizes education as well as kindness and tolerance. And all while winning awards for academic excellence!
Shelton provides a great balance between academic rigor and other enrichment activities. It has provided our kids with an opportunity to be exposed to some of the important diversity represented by our community, which is helping them to grow into well rounded young adults. Great communication between parents, teachers, and staff.
I am so excited to have my son enrolled in KG at Shelton. The way the welcome us indicates that the staff of this school is nice and professional. I did recommend this school to my other friends.
Shelton is a school with great diversity! Your child will learn about so many types of people and cultures from all around the world. The teacher here are top notch and go above and beyond children's academic needs. They are loving and kind and great educators. Shelton provides many after school activities from art, music, and sports .You will have no problem finding something fun for any type of kid. All of these attributes make Shelton a safe and fun atmosphere for all kids to thrive! It also has the best community, kids and workers that make it feel like home! Glad we chose to make Shelton our home!
My child is in kindergarten at Shelton and we've loved it so far. The principal, teachers, and parents all are very committed to the school and the students.
I have 2 kids at Shelton in 3rd and 1st Grade and am very happy with the level of education they have received so far. I love that the kids go to a neighborhood school with great diversity of students and families from all over the globe. The teachers and leadership of the school is very professional and they are always willing to make time to talk should we have questions about our kids. There are plenty of options for extra curricular activities should the kids want to get involved. I definitely recommend Shelton to any families in the area.
Both of my kids have attended this school and I could never be happier with a school than Shelton. I moved them to this schoo after attending Pleasent View, I dont even want to get started on that school. The teachers will work with whether your child needs more help or is excelled, which I have one of each. They are warm and caring there. Wish they went all the way to High school.
Shelton is a great traditional, public school. The teachers and staff are very warm, professional and hardworking. My child is functioning at an advanced level and the teachers and coaches have created extensions that are appropriate and challenging. I am grateful that he has an opportunity to learn at his level but with his classmates, who incidently are very diverse.
I have a 1st grader at Shelton Elementary School. This is our second year of great teachers, school staff, kids and their families. Shelton has great involvement in the extracurricular programs such as running club, taekwondo, science fair, oral interpretation, choir and math club. I highly recommend Shelton to any famliy!
The best school i have enrolled my son yet!!! This school has great communication and actually cares about teaching your child! my son went from low grades and just in one year above grade average!!! I love shelton
My son is engaged and learning so much in Kindergarten. Shelton has superior teachers, aides, and administrative staff. I volunteer one morning a month in my son's classroom and enjoy helping and getting to know the kids. Shelton offers extracurricular activities - science fair, oral interpretation, geography bee - to name a few. The Parent, Teacher, Student Association is active. I can't say enough good things about Shelton!!
My daughter is in Kindergarten this year. She is loves the school, her teacher and the library dog Libby. She is reading at 1st grade level. Every single child in Mrs. Weitzel's class is reading at grade level or above. There is huge amounts of parent involvement. There is one mother who actually volunteers 40 hours a week. This school deserves to be recognized for the great school they are.
Love this school... My daughter has been here for four years. Agree with the comments below. Love the music and art programs. Could have sent my child to Kyffin GT but their after school program was full and the place seemed PACKED! My daughter has had some great teachers. Ms. Schultz was her favorite. Parents are finally starting to participate more in PTSA which always makes a huge difference.
Shelton has really been a great school for my son. The teachers have been caring and the principal is really invested in raising the bar for this school. Though the scores are not as high as some of the other Golden schools, it has way more diversity and socioeconomic levels. I feel my son really benefits from that and is not just in a "sea of white". There are many extracurricular after school programs, contests, and academic events for my son to participate in, as well. I had considered putting him in Free Horizon at one point because I heard so many good things but when comparing it side by side, the structure and quality of student work, suprisingly, was better at Shelton. My hope is that Shelton will get some more male teachers and work on their science/technology curriculum.
Great school teachers were very helpful and knowledgeable... The cared about the kids, it is rare now a days
I think Shelton does an excellent job at helping students to feel excited about school. Tammy Harvey is an outstanding kindergarten teacher - probably the best in the state. Get her if you can! My son's now in 1st grade and is having a good experience with Debi Ankele. I wish there was more support for music, arts, and sports, but like most schools in Colorado, those areas are underfunded. As a result, expect to pay for extracurricular opportunities in those areas and expect a large number of school fundraisers. Pretty good parent involvement given the economic diversity of the school.
