Want to improve this school’s profile? You can!

All schools on GreatSchools begin with BASIC completeness, which includes important information like contact details and test scores. It’s up to the school community to take the next steps. As a parent or community member, you can share what you know with other families by writing a review or answering a few questions about what the school offers. As a school leader, you can upload photos, describe school programs, and more with an Official school profile.

The completeness meter moves to INTERMEDIATE, then ADVANCED, and finally HONOR ROLL as you complete the following: 10 or more reviews, at least 1 photo, and 9 program questions parents find helpful.

I had to pull my daughter out of this school prior to 6th grade because of the teachers. This is one of the worst schools in DCSD, in my opinion. I had two children go through here and could not take it anymore. A very a bad experience. I make sure to tell all my friends and coworkers.

Our family LOVES Arrowwood! The teachers are fantastic! They offer many clubs for all grades online reading writing and math programs. I have two children at Arrowwood currently and I am very happy with our experience. The teachers are outstanding some of the best in the district. The families are wonderful and dedicated as well.

Was a parent for 3 years at Arrowwood. Terrible experiences with the administration, many poor teachers, no individualized instruction offered, just educational jargon. Stay away!

I agree with the last comment, dated August 3, 2011. Arrowwood's policy toward bullying seems to be to try to reform the bully instead of protecting the victims. I wish we could have gotten our child into a charter school instead.

Our family LOVES Arrowwood! The teachers are fantastic! They offer many clubs for all grades, online reading, writing and math programs to supplement the curriculum. Many community activities and a strong PTCO. My son experienced a situation with bullying, once the teachers were aware - they took care of it and even the principal stepped in and set things straight. No tolerance for bullies at AWE. Both my children are above grade level in some areas and they are continually challenged to increase their knowledge. AWE is AWEsome!

My children have been at AWE for four years. I now have a kindie there too. I disagree with the bullying, bad language and not helping your child excel. I am in the school volunteering often and don't see that and my children are very open with my husband and me. They state how bullying isn't tolerated. My oldest son is very smart and they push him incredibly. He's in extra activities to make sure he's excelling. This school is great. I'm glad it goes to 6th grade because I feel it's protected my 6th grader from cursing, impurity and bullying that's everywhere in middle school now. I appreciate the extra clubs they have this year. Even for the youngest children.

Great school. Excellent teachers, excellent office staff. The new principal, especially, is a huge asset to the school. We love our neighborhood school!

Arrowwod has a few excellent teachers; however, most lack acceptable teaching skills and classroom control. The school tolerates a lot of unacceptable student behavior such as classroom outbursts, bullying, bad language, and lack of focus. Class sizes are enormous. Field trips are chaotic due to large numbers. The school seems to be OK if your child is in need of special assistance. If your child is average or above average, he/ she will not be challenged.

My kids and I love this school! Do your own research - the test scores are not poor, bullying is not tollerated, Douglas county schools have opened enrollment for all schools so of course, if there is room, they will accept students from other neighborhoods & districts - the school gets money based on the number of students. Great school - absolutely no regrets!

Poor test scores and school is so desperate to get smarter kids they are now accepting out of district kids. Cut the Art program when forced to make budget cuts, until Parents threatened to pull their kids out of the school. There is no skill based break out. If you kid is ahead of grade they make them sit through the grade level activites.

After four years here and many changes in funding, we still love Arrowwood. They roll with the changes with love and grace. The front office staff, principle and especially the teachers are amazing and dedicated to each student that comes through their doors.

What a wonderful school! I've had at least one child at Arrowwood now for four years and we just love it. The teachers are so dedicated, the principal knows the children by name, and the parent volunteers and PTCO are wonderful! We would recommend this school to anyone!

My kids LOVE Arrowwood! We live close to the school and I like that they can ride their bikes to school. The building is beautiful and the teachers are outstanding. The art program is wonderful, also. My kids have been involved in choir, scouting, clubs and have made so many friends. We couldn't be happier.

Like all the douglas county schools, Arrowwood has had to make cutbacks due to financial challenges. But the students never feel the effects, because the staff and leadership are so dedicated. We have been at Arrowwood for five years now and just love it. The teachers are amazing, the specials (art, p.e. and music) teachers are great and the office leadership is wonderful. A parent can't go wrong with sending their children to Arrowwood.

We have loved Arrowwood! The teachers are just outstanding and my kids (grades K, 2 and 4) have made so many friends. The office staff and the principal know all the kids by name. Students are challenged academically and creatively. It is a wonderful school surrounded by a supportive, neighborhood community.

What a terrible experience for us! Principal was promoted from vice- principal a few years ago; who likes to talk instead of listen to what is the problem. Not for Kids are above or below their grade level. My neighbor s kid was below the class avg. and got hassled. My kid was tuck into back of class corner to read to himself because he is advanced. We found a great school with 20 yrs experienced principal who knows how to get things right for kids.

I have had 2 kids go through AWE form k-6. They both were in National Junior Honor Society in Junior HIgh and have really excelled. I think parents need to take accountability if their kids aren't where they want them to be. The school is not an afternoon babysitter. The 9-4 hours were not set by AWE, but by Douglas County so don't blame the school for this. There are many opportunities for parents to get involved. The parents who do get involved is reflected in their child's success.....

I'm not sure what school the previous reviewer is talking about, but my children have participated in choir, band, leadership club, puzzle club, and a summer math program. A friend's son is in the reading club, another child we know is in the scrapbooking club. I think they also have clubs for strategy games, international cultures, and other interests.

This school have no extracurricular activities at all. The staff are not friendly, bunch of full of attitude, I regret that I've enrolled my kids here. Everyone is laid back, school start 9-4 pm. Needed a better quality leadership from principal. It would be great if we can help some sort of after school activity like reading club, chess club, or lego club.

I have 2 children in this school. I would give it a huge thumbs down review. The kids are impulsively sent to the principal's office and don't deal with anything within the classroom. We are not staying here. I will move before sending my kids here a 2nd year. Poor instruction, poor leadership, but great front office ladies. Check their turnover rate--you'll see, even teachers don't stay....

We're starting our fifth year at Arrowwood and are very happy that our kids are here. We've seen definite improvements since the first year. The teachers that we have come to know are dedicated to helping each student succeed. The office staff is wonderful, the facility is great, the 'specials' teachers (PE, music, art, etc.) extraordinary, and they keep adding new technology resources. Obviously no school is perfect, and often you get out of it what you put into it, but we would recommend this school to friends.

I'm very dissapointed. Our kids were in Gate program, thriving and happy till last Spring in California. They're now losing interest in learning. The education level is low. The school is lacking the leadership. I wouldn't recommend this school to anyone.

Our family has been attending Arrowwood for 5 years and we love it! All the teachers have been supportive with my child's need for extra challenging work. The school's Friendship Club has been instrumental in helping kids to solve problems effectively using their own ideas to resolve conflicts. Mrs. McCormack (Principal) genuinely cares about the students and her door is always open for them as well as parents.

The reviews that had bad comments about Arrowwood were written before Mrs. McCormack became the principle. She is working so hard at making sure this is a school of excellence, and she has succeeded. We love this school, and hope we can send all of our kids there. I truly believe this is the best elementary school in Highlands Ranch, because of the hard work being put into changing the image of the school. Test scores aren't everything-- we have the most Deaf/Hard of Hearing kids in Highlands Ranch. We also have the most English Second Language kids. To have High test scores with these disadvantage kids says a lot. Other schools don't have such 'diversity' in their schools, accounting for the higher test scores. Make sure you check the date of comments before you decide about Arrowwood.

Our oldest child attended Arrowwood for K and 1st. We were disappointed in the 'average' mindset of the school. We moved out of Highlands Ranch specifically to provide our children with the time-tested education available in the Cherry Creek School District. Our child is now excelling in 2nd grade and ahead of the curve in the top school district in the State. I would not recommend this school nor any Highlands Ranch school at this time.

We love Arrowwood. Our family is very involved at Arrowwood and we all volunteer there on a regular basis. In this capacity, we are able to work closely with as well as observe the staff and their committment to the children. Mrs. McCormack is now the principal and has instituted many changes to better the school all around including testing scores. The teaching staff works hard to ensure that each child is treated as an individual and that the levels of work are tailored to each child's needs. The best way to improve a school is to be involved and to give positive suggestions for change - not just complain as I have seen many parents do. My child is performing well above grade level and the her last two teachers have made sure that she is getting advanced work to be sure she is challenged - not just performing adequately.

As a parent of a kindergartener, and a former teacher, I am quite impressed with Arrowwood's administration, faculty, parent involvement, test scores, building appearance, and classified staff. Ms. Staci McCormack, Principal, is passionate about her work, and her passion seems to trickle down into the rest of the staff. I feel secure that my son is getting the best education, I don't worry a bit about his safety, and I am happy to be involved with this great school.

Now that the CSAP results are in it supports what I have long thought. This school is lacking the leadership and support to offer any challanging curriculum. The students are all falling into the 'its ok to be average' mindset. If you care about your child you will explore other schools as soon as you can because to attend Arrowwood can be the biggest mistake that you could make. Care about you childrens education and keep them away until changes are made to make this school work.

I love Arrowwood. My daughter has been a student here for four years. She has always received the individualized attention she needs. When she was placed on a 504 the administration and her teacher were very supportive and have accommodated her needs. Every staff member that I have had contact with has shown great professionalism, it has been a pleasure having my child attend Arrowwood.

We moved to Douglas county because of the schools. We are now in the process of moving our children to Cherry Creek SD because we have tried for three years to find more challenging work for our kids. Mrs. Daugherty is a completely ineffective and uninterested principle. We met +10x with her and our teachers. Ms. MCCormick (assistant principle) tries very hard, but it is clear, that she receives no support. Teacher turnover ratio is extremely high; the good teachers leave out of frustration. If you care about your child's education, you owe it to them to investigate other open enrollment opportunities (if you want to stay in Douglas County).

Too many papers are sent home with the children that rarely make it home in one piece. So there are times that I am not aware of upcoming events or activities because of the cnfusion with all the various papers in the backpack. I feel that a lot of those can be picked up in the front of the school office if needed, versus them always getting thrown away.

I am very disappointed with the school. My child has regressed since moving here. The curriculum is sub-standard, the teachers test the children on things they haven't effectively taught them, and safety is a concern (once the bell rings, even the young children are let go without knowing who if anyone is picking them up).
