Like all schools in the state of Colorado, they 'teach to the test' (CSAP). Which really has absolutely no benefit to the kids. They get to college and have no good study skills. CSAP poses another problem to students, like mine, who struggle. Every school has to have a few kids that do not do so well, so they brush those kids under the carpet and forget about them, after all they need them for their stats. It is not just the high school, it starts in Kindergarden. Even the Ag Dept in this school is only good, if you have the right last name! The admin in this school is a joke, they have no idea what the state laws are or how to impose them.

There are some great teachers & our Ag dept is awesome. The student body is small and seemingly a close knit community of kids. Academically their basic education is adequate for their graduates to survive in the real world and if motivated to secondary education. In addition, they have set a very high standard for the kids over all; which in general is a good thing (but for a few students, perhaps too high). Proceed with caution, stay involved & your kids should do just fine.

Both of my daughters went through school. Yes - it is a small town with small town problems and issues. However, in my opinion it is one of the best schools around. The school is small enough that potentially large social issues are handled quickly and effectively because the administrators no every child personally and no what they are capable of (good and bad). My oldest child is through college and did very well because of the basic education she received. I'm sure my youngest will have the same success. Good luck with your education decision! Deb F

Platte Valley is a great school - elementary, middle school and high school. Great parent involvement and very caring teachers.

Racism, classism, and other types of 'isms' run rampid in such a small population and I wouldn't do any of it again. Do your child a favor, and get them a better education, if they are 'Wordly' in any way!
